Gibraltar's Top 7 Places to Visit

At the mouth of the Mediterranean sits Gibraltar's rocky stretch of natural splendor. With a fascinating political history, this peninsula boasts a diverse architectural legacy and continues to be a popular stop for cruise ships touring the Spanish coasts.

Rock of Gibraltar

This epic limestone promontory provides delights from both above and below. Explore the Great Siege Tunnels or monkey around in the Apes' Den with the famous Barbary macaques.

St Michael's Cave

Once believed to be bottomless, this rocky marvel is shrouded in mystery and teeming with history. The Cathedral Cave is now a performance space, so plan ahead to catch a show.

Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (Alameda Wildlife Park)

Beautifully kept, this walled oasis contains Mediterranean fauna, a Dragon Tree canopy and picturesque pools. Tours run everyday from the George Don Gates at 10:30AM for £5.

Catalan Bay

East of the city lies this peaceful fishing village. Escape the busy city center for its sandy shore - one of Gibraltar's best beaches - and row of wonderful seafood restaurants.

Europa Point

As Gibraltar's southernmost point, on a clear day you can see the coast of Africa from its rocky peak. Walk along to the iconic Trinity Lighthouse and Shrine of Our Lady of Europe.

Moorish Castle

Since the 11th century, the great square tower of Gibraltar's castle has sat high on its hillside. Today the ruins of the Tower of Homage and Gate House are well worth a visit.

Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque

A beautiful blend of classic Islamic and Byzantine architecture, the mosque sits proudly on Europa Point. Explore the exquisite interior, just remember to respect the dress code.

Planning Your Gibraltar Visit

How many days should you stay for?

A long weekend in Gibraltar is more than enough time to visit its must-see sights, but to make the most of its best beaches and beautiful surroundings make it a week. With a Spanish border, it's easy to hire a car and visit Cadiz or Seville within a couple of hours.

Where should you stay?

Gibraltar has plenty of quaint seaside hotels to pick from, many only a stone's throw from the city's main attractions. Though often on the pricier side, booking well in advance can save you some pretty pennies. If you're planning a Spanish adventure, the nearby cities of La Linea or Tarifa serve as great jumping-off locations.

What People Are Saying About Gibraltar

a good geography and history class combined

a really great tour with a lot of things that school doesn't teach you, combined with a great atmosphere from Paco and Paul - the local guide in Gibraltar. If you have the chance for a nice sunny day, then the view is more than breathtaking from up there, and take care with the monkeys :D

Tour was good but the arrangements are woeful.

Once again we walked around in circles trying to find the meeting point, asked four different people and were sent in different directions each time, by the time we found it l didn't feel like going.

Great visit, enjoyed by everyone. Loved the Rock tour

Our party of nine adults had a busy but very enjoyable day on the rock. Time was allocated for shopping before and after the rock tour, although the time after was curtailed somewhat due to the rock tour over-running. The rock tour itself was great, especially seeing the monkeys. Our guide was very courteous and provided some well received comedic moments. Overall, everyone enjoyed the day and returned happily to Spain with their many purchases.

Lovely trip on a top quality coach and top quality tour guide.

The coach arrived at the pick up point promptly and we had a warm welcome from the guide. The coach was clean, well maintained and air conditioned. The journeys to and from Gibraltar were unremarkable, which in itself is a major compliment.

Very interesting day in Gibraltar. Enhanced by the excellent guides who were all very humourous but full of information. I especially enjoyed the tunnels within the rock
