Getxo

Explore the Bilbao seaside by bike on this 2.5-hour fun and informative guided tour. Start your tour right at the feet of the iconic Vizcaya Bridge, where you’ll learn about its history, fun facts, and the present role of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a pleasant ride along the seaside, enjoy your first stop at Puerto Viejo. Beautiful and filled with history and anecdotes, you’ll have the freedom to roam and walk around its hidden corners and streets. Blend in among the locals and join them as we taste some world-famous pintxos (small snacks), and maybe a glass of wine, or a Caña for beer lovers.   You’ll then continue on to a few secret local spots before heading on to the route to the Cliffs where you’ll experience the Biscay coastline at its best. With its unmatched scenery, the majesty of the sea and fresh air will accompany you for one of the most beautiful bike routes in the Basque country.   After the tour, you can enjoy the beautiful Arrigunaga beach just meters away, grab a bite in one of its panoramic resto-bars, have a drink with your feet on the sand at the beach bar, or just read your book on the beach.

Depart Bilbao and head to Vitoria-Gasteiz to explore the capital city of the Basque Country. Take a guided walking tour through the old town to see the cathedral, parliament and historical monuments of Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. Discover a medieval quarter in Plaza del Machete and admire the Church of San Miguel. Go to Añana Salt Valley and learn the history of one of the oldest salt mines in the world. Continue to Orduña to discover its medieval square, the biggest in the whole Basque Country and enjoy lunch at a typical restaurant in the medieval village of Balmaseda. Venture through the Ayala Valley and the mining area of Bizkaia (Biscay) to reach the coast at Santurtzi and Portugalete, where you will cross the Vizcaya Bridge, the first transporter bridge built in the world with a metal structure, to Getxo.

Throughout this four-hour bike tour, starting in Bilbao, discover the maritime and industrial history of the villas. Explore the iron mines and learn about the way the citizens were able to transform the natural landscape into a place worth admiring. Begin your trip by visiting the new icons of the city, including the Guggenheim Museum, Euskalduna Congress Palace, and the Maritime Museum. Continue pedaling along the left bank of the estuary until it joins the open sea.  The Pendant or Bizkaia Bridge, which was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2006, links the Portugalete's Villa with Getxo. Once there, continue to The Gold Mile of Biscay, among the outstanding palaces built by the aristocracy at the beginning of the 20th-century. Visit the Sailing Club and Ereaga beach. End your journey in the quaint and picturesque Algorta's Old Port.

During the 19th century the region of Bilbao experienced a huge industralisation development that led to two very different social classes: working class and bankers. Each one laid on river Nervion's West and East banks, and both areas developed their own way. This tour will take you to learn about the Bizkaia bridge, built in late 19th century as a representation of the iron industry in the area, and the link of both river banks. On the left side there lies the medieval village of Portugalete, with steep and narrow streets and Camino de Santiago routes. On the right side, you will discover Getxo, with all her different areas: from majestic Las Arenas and exclusive palaces of Neguri to the charming centuries-old houses of the Old Port in Algorta and the astonishing views from the cliffs of Punta Galea. The estuary of river Ibaizabal, coming from Bilbao, has many secrets ready to be discovered. Visit the highlights of the Basque Country on a tour of its main cities and unique places. Day 2: Bilbao - San Sebastian Breakfast at the hotel We will leave Bilbao and pass through unique villages nestled among mountains before arriving in Loyola, birthplace of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. Here we will visit the impressive Basilica and the tower house where he was born and lived. Our next stop will be Getaria, a unique medieval fishing village and birthplace of famous people such as Captain Juan Sebastián Elcano, the first man to circumnavigate the world by sea, and Cristóbal Balenciaga, the famous designer. We will then pass through Zarauz, a beautiful tourist spot with the largest beach in the province of Gipuzkoa and arrive in San Sebastian, where we will take a walking tour of the Old Town and have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will go to Mount Igeldo to contemplate the incredible view of La Concha Bay before returning to Bilbao in the evening. Day 3: San Sebastian Breakfast at the hotel Enjoy a free day to explore San Sebastian. Visit San Telmo Museum with the entrance ticket included in the program. Day 4: San Sebastian - Rioja - Vitoria Breakfast at the hotel Our first stop will be Ordizia, where we will go on a walking tour to discover this beautiful town with many ancient buildings and monuments. Our next stop will be Oñati where we will visit the Sancti Spiritus University, one of the gems of the civil architecture of the Basque Renaissance. Later we will head to Arantzazu Sanctuary, where we will visit the majestic monument and example of contemporary sacred architecture. Our last stop will be Laguardia, where we will go on a guided tour around the beautiful medieval town and we will have free time for lunch. Finally we will take a panoramic tour of Vitoria,on our way to the hotel. Day 5: Vitoria - Bilbao Breakfast at the hotel In the morning we will visit Añana Salt Valley, where we will learn about the historic salt mining industry. We will continue to Orduña, where we will take a guided walking tour of the town. We will then stop for lunch in Balmaseda, and finally we will visit the Bizkaia Bridge, the oldest transporter bridge in use before heading back to Bilbao. Day 6: Bilbao Breakfast at the hotel Enjoy some free time in Bilbao before leaving to the airport/station. Private transfer to the airport/station.
