Our trail guide for the battle field was very knowledgeable and made the trip interesting and added humor rather than just droll on like some guides do. He was really good. The horse guide, and the outrider, were both very in tune to the riders, horses and the needs of all. Great job ladies! We loved the horses. My horse, Twister, was a "tailgater" (literally) but a very good boy. Just give him a little direction and he is great (I should add that I have had minimal experience with horses). My husband has never been around horses and he is now hooked. I have been trying to get him to do a trail ride for years and he always resisted. I finally insisted we do this at Gettysburg and it was great. We are now both looking forward to more trail rides in the future. (He rode Ulysses, also a bit of a tailgater but a great horse). Regardless if you have no experience with horses or a lot of experience; know very little about the Battle of Gettysburg or know a lot; you will like this tour!
I highly recommend this tour. This was our family's second visit to Gettysburg. On our first visit, we took a horseback tour (also wonderful). We decided to change it up this time and we were not disappointed. Our tour guide Kevin was highly knowledgeable and energetic. He kept the experience interactive by encouraging us to ask questions. We had opportunities to stop and get out of the carriage at different points. The 2 hours went by very quickly. We left full of new information about this dynamic battle. We would take this tour again!
the guide spoke the entire two hours and was as expected very learned. we had hoped to take the 2 hour horse ride, but decided on the carriage instead. this was a good choice as you were always facing the speaker, didn't need to watch where you were going, and as an older hard of hearing male, i could hear the entire time.
Our Guide Jim was amazing: so much knowledge and so may facts to share- Diorama n Cyclorama were cool but the carriage tour gets you down on the ground and you really acknowledged the immensity of the battle field and topography - as animal lovers we all appreciated how well the horses are kept- too
Wonderful way to experience the battlefield. The guide was knowledgeable and gave details not included on the Park's audio tour. He was especially GREAT interacting with the youth on the ride. Kids can easily get boarded with history, but the younger family members on the trip were really engaged.
