The main church's facade is beautifully adorned with carvings of animals, floral designs, and Celtic-style patterns. Your journey continues to Gudauri, a remarkable ski resort in Georgia. Located at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level, Gudauri offers high-quality skiing opportunities from December to April. The day concludes with an optional stop in Pasanauri village, the birthplace of Georgian Khinkali. These delicious dumplings, filled with meat or vegetables, are a must-try. Take in unbeatable views of local spots, village landscapes, and Mount Kazbegi. The trip starts with a 40-minute drive from Tbilisi to the Zhinvali reservoir. The huge lake around the forest-rich hills offers beautiful landscapes at any time of the year. From here you can already smell the mountains. Not far from the lake, visit the historical sights of Ananuri Fortress. Built in the Middle Ages, this fortress complex served the most important defensive function in the region. This is the only complex in Georgia that has survived to this day and is almost in its original form. Stop near the friendship monument in Gudauri next and get some free time to explore. You can join paragliding with local instructors (costs not included) or just relax and take photos. Enjoy panoramic views of beautiful mountain systems in several directions around. The road continues in the direction of Kazbegi through a pass with a maximum altitude of 2,379 meters above sea level. There, you'll see only high mountains and small villages around. Finally, visit Stepantsminda, the administrative center of the municipality. Choose to visit Gergeti Church, which is not only an important religious place but also a place with scenic views of Kazbegi. Before returning to Tbilisi, you can have a relaxing time on the veranda of a hotel, drink coffee or tea, and see the Mkinvartsveri (Mount Kazbegi).

Please pay attention that this is a 320km journey that will last for 10-11 hours with 6 hours drive. ------------------------- The Caucasus mountains, with Kazbegi at 1740 meters, are over 160 km from Tbilisi. We'll need to leave early to take full advantage. We meet at 9.00 a.m. at your hotel. After an hour's drive and a few fine photos of the 300 Aragvi monument and the Zhinvali reservoir, we'll arrive at the Ananuri fortress. This fortified complex dates back to the 13th century, when the rulers decided to protect the capital upstream. We'll take 45 minutes to visit the complex. If you're hungry, we can stop off in Pasanauri at one of the many cafés. However, I recommend taking a small picnic and stopping here on the way back to try the best Khinkali in Georgia. That way, you'll get the most out of the day. We now attack the climb via the Gudauri ski resort. On reaching the Monument of Friendship between Georgia and Russia, we'll pause to contemplate one of the region's most beautiful panoramas. Crossing the Jvari pass, we plunge into the valley towards Kazbegi / Stepantsminda. The Trinity Church of Gergeti is just around the corner. We're almost there. Now it's time for the final stage, the ascent of Gergeti. At the summit, you'll have time to appreciate the snow-capped mountains of the Caucasus range and breathe in the pure mountain air. If you still have some energy left, we'll make a short detour to the village of Sno, which hides some gigantic outdoor sculptures. Now that we've had our fill of oxygen, it's time to return slowly to Tbilisi. The road back is long, so it's worth stopping off in Pasanauri at this point to sample the local specialities.
