Reykjavik: Eimverk Distillery Tour with Tasting

1. Reykjavik: Eimverk Distillery Tour with Tasting

The tour begins with an introduction to the distillery and a welcome drink. Following the introduction, listen to your guide reflect upon the history of whiskey in Iceland and how it came to be produced at Eimverk distillery. Guests are encouraged to participate with questions, so don’t be afraid to interact if there’s something you want to know. After you’ve learned a bit about the history of the distillery, it’s time for the tasting to start. As you go through the products, your guide will explain and reminisce everything from the initial thought process to the current state of development of Eimverk’s spirits. When the first half of the tasting is over, head towards the distillery’s production facility. Learn about the steps of the process right from the beginning of the barley harvesting, to the delicious glass of liquor at the end. Take some photos of the fascinating production area, and then head back to the tasting room for the second half of the sampling. As you taste the spirits, listen to your guide share interesting stories and explanations about the drinks, and mingle with the other guests on the tour.

Golden Circle: Geothermal Sea Bath & Farm Lunch Guided Tour

3. Golden Circle: Geothermal Sea Bath & Farm Lunch Guided Tour

Your guide will pick you up at a hotel, guesthouse, or a close bus stop in Reykjavik(see bus stops here), and after you will head on this awesome journey. Thingvellir national parks is the first stop. This is where we got our independence, this is where we took Christianity, the first church in Iceland was built there and this is where the 2 tectonic plates that Iceland is located on, move apart from each other. Thingvellir is not an only natural beauty, but this place is filled with historical events throughout Iceland’s history. While you are in Iceland, there is a “must do” to try all the authentic Iceland has to offer. You get the chance to visit an Icelandic dairy farm and enjoy what Icelanders call, Made in satin”. That means enjoying food and products which the farmers make with their own hands. One of the farmers which are 3 sisters and 1 brother, will sit down with the small group and hold a presentation. After the presentation, you will taste their homemade products. For lunch, they have 2 options: Beef meat soup with beef from the farm, or mushroom soup with mushrooms from Iceland’s only mushroom farm. For dessert, you will get homemade ice cream. After this nice visit to these sisters’ farm, you will continue over to the world-famous one and only Geysir. Why do I say,, one and only”? That's because this natural phenomenon called Geyser comes originally from this one in Iceland. Do you know what every Icelander is proud of? The iconic Gullfoss waterfall. Standing there and marveling at this beautiful waterfall is absolutely breathtaking. The water in this waterfall runs from Iceland’s second-biggest glacier, Langjökull glacier. End this tour in a perfect way. Iceland is rich of geothermal water and we have hundreds of hot springs all around Iceland. You have the chance to bathe in one of Iceland’s hot springs and it’s actually a warm seawater. These are luxury geothermal sea baths located in Hvalfjörður (whale fjord) and there you get the most stunning view while relaxing both mind and body. If you are wondering how to dress for this activity, we always send out emails the day before about how the weather is going to be. But we highly recommend bringing rain gear to Iceland. Does not matter the time of the year. In winter, bring rain gear and also warm clothes, cap, and gloves. You can also rent a parka for your tour. Also, remember to bring a towel with you for the sea baths and a swimsuit. Not to mention your smile We look forward to seeing you on the tour.

From Reykjavik: Snaefellsnes Peninsula Small Group Tour

4. From Reykjavik: Snaefellsnes Peninsula Small Group Tour

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is one of the most beautiful parts of Iceland. The landscape there is totally different from anything else in Iceland and very often you feel like you are on a different planet. Surrounded by lava almost all day, visiting the black mysterious church and walking on top of a volcanic crater. This awesome tour starts with a pickup from Reykjavik or its closest towns between 08:00 to 08:30 a.m. You can be picked up from your accommodation or your closest bus stop (see bus stops) in the downtown area. From there, you will head on to this volcanic journey to the center of the earth. Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall & Kirkjufell mountain are the first stops. There you will see a lot of various soils mixed together and a spectacular mountain shaped by old glaciers dating from the ice age. The old road on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula used to lead over to the waterfall and therefor, there’s an old bridge you can walk over to look down the waterfall. Hellnar has the oldest fishing harbour in Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Visit this abandoned old village, see the old ruins of the dock there and take a look at how the ocean has formed many caves and holes in the cliffs there. Absolutely marvellous place. Djúpalónssandur beach is the next stop. This beach is truly one of the most spectacular ones in Iceland. This is a black sand beach with volcanic rocks creating a unique atmosphere there. After a short drive to Arnarstapi you’ll take a walk to the coastline and marvel at the home of elves which towers over this magical old fishing village on one side, with the North Atlantic ocean on the other side. Búðir is the last stop before heading to Reykjavik. This place has a black old church located in the lava fields where the one and only serial killer in Iceland used to live. Take a walk to the beach there and see the black lava fields lying on the golden beach. Surreal environment. What a day this will be!

This was literally an unexpected gem on the last day of our Iceland vacation. My girlfriend Cecilia and I arrived a bit early and our guide Ritchie made us feel comfortable while finishing a tour with a previous group and offered us a drink while we waited. Ritchie is extremely competent and you can see how passionate he truly is about his job and the world of spirits. We had a full lesson on how to taste a spirit, tips and tricks to recognise flavour notes, plus historical anecdotes on Iceland, the Eimverk brewery, Viking mythology and I don’t even remember what else! All this accompanied by something like 8 to 12 tasting (you start loosing count after the first few) of their delicious locally produced gin, aquavit and (star of the show) whisky, indeed. All things that you can obviously buy straight there at the end. Finally, we even got recommended where to fill our bellies to recover from the session! Top notch service, absolutely worth it a visit. 110% recommended!

Richie was an AMAZING tour guide!! He also very knowledgeable about the tasting notes and the process that goes into making the gins and whiskeys.

This was a brilliant time. Tastings were way more than expected and Richie was amazing. Can't recommend this enough.
