Bartolome Day Tour

Description Bartolome will welcome our guests to the incredible natural wealth of teeming Galapagos wildlife where they will be amazed with the dramatic views of the luscious landscape. It is a fantastic spot to take personal and group pictures and it is a jewel-toned setting for charismatic penguins, skittering crabs and marine iguanas. At the sandy cove the adventurers will start to snorkel with the speedy Galapagos penguins. Also, hundreds of colorful reef fish, sea turtles and rays are surrounding the island. At the shade of the Pinnacle Rock our excursionist will have the best place to snorkel and to take photograph of the endemic penguins and the rock looks out across pale beaches and blue-green water, their colors offset by the coal-black lava flow at Sullivan Bay. A hot lunch and refreshments are provided on the boat. At the end of the journey the boat will come back to Santa Cruz, after that a bus will take you to the most comfortable and environmentally friendly lodge. It is recommended to wear a wetsuit in order to neutralize the sea temperature, because it falls below 20ºC from June to November and it is up to 27ºC from December to May. Kicker Rock (León Dormido) is a cone-shaped rock of volcanic tuff in the middle of the ocean. It is approximately 148 meters (485 ft.) high, formed by two rocks that create a canal, making it an ideal spot for different aquatic activities. Interests: • Birdwatching blue-footed boobys and Nazca boobys. You can also see pelicans and frigatebirds (there are two species in the Galápagos: the Magnificent and the Great frigate bird). • Snorkeling and diving with sharks, sea turtles, stingrays, fishes, sea lions, and a variety of impressive sea life. • Photography. Beaches: Cerro Brujo - Manglesito - Puerto Grande. (The beach visited will depend on the itinerary and the permits issued by the national park). Cerro Brujo (Witch’s Hill): In the past, the early settlers of the island would use salt from the mines to curate the fish. From this practice derives bacalao, a dried and salted cod, an essential ingredient in an exquisite traditional Ecuadorian dish prepared during Easter. You will have the unique opportunity to observe two plants from the halophyte species (Salicornia fructirosa y Scaevola plumieri) that grow here due to the soil being rich in salt. This coral-sand beach is an incredible place for scenic landscape photography. You can also get a view of Kicker Rock (León Dormido) or its profile if viewed from the hilltop. If the weather conditions are favorable, you will be able to enjoy a panga ride (motorized dinghies) around the area. Manglecito Beach: You can visit the mangrove area as well as enjoy the beach. Thanks to its location, it is a beautiful place for birdwatching endemic birds such as the Galápagos duck. There are two main flora species predominant on this beach. First, is the Sesuvium edmonstonei, commonly known as Galápagos carpet weed which has a salty flavor. Secondly is the button mangrove. Locals surfers are known to visit this location due to the waves that form thanks to a reef located on the side of the beach. Puerto Grande Beach: In this area, you can find a system of dunes and diverse plant species. Birdwatching is also a great option due to the presence of different sea birds, coastal and migrating birds. This beach also serves the function of a nursery for baby sharks due to the protection provided by the mangroves. In the last few years, there has been a decrease in the frequency of visits to this location since it became a place for researchers to explore ways to preserve its ecosystem and species. We begin our adventure to Floreana Island (Puerto Velasco Ibarra) taking a boat with a navigation of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Floreana Island is one of the islands with more historical roots within the archipelago. Upon arrival, we start our tour in an adventure land transport for our excursion in the highlands. We visit the Asilo de la Paz which is formed by vegetation typical of the island. Here we will find the Caves of the Pirates, which were used as shelters by the first inhabitants of the island. On the way we will find some rock formations in the shape of INCAS faces. We will have a short introduction to those interesting stories of this beautiful island by our guide. Then we will arrive at La Galapaguera where we will observe the endemic tortoises of the island in their natural habitat after their reinsertion by the Galapagos National Park after breeding several specimens in captivity and ensure the existence of this species. Then we will arrive at a lookout point from where we will be able to appreciate a beautiful view of the entire coastal area of Floreana Island.

Description: Early in the morning, at 07:15 or 11:00 am, after wondering a delicious breakfast, you will embark on a must-do day trip to one of the most biodiverse sites in the Galapagos, Los Tuneles -or The Tunnels in English- also known as Cabo Rosa. They are unique geological formations, a series of arcs and tunnels underneath and above the water, located 1 hour riding from Puerto Villamil Pier. The first spot is in Roca Union a small islet located in the open sea were watching majestic pelicans, blue footed boobies and Nazca Boobies and, occasionally, sea lions resting on the rocks makes your terrific journey. This site is an ideal place for snorkeling due to its crystal-clear and shallow waters, so there is possible to swim next to sea turtles, white-tipped sharks, trumpetfish and surgeon fish. It is also able to see eagle and golden rays. The second and principle spot is in Los Tuneles where you will be allowed to do more snorkeling and enjoy some short trail observing the landscape and teeming wildlife. Cabo Rosa is heaven to sea turtles, marine iguanas, sea lions, blue footed boobies, royal frigate, eagle rays, penguins, lobsters, sea snakes, a variety of birds, among other species. Hot box lunch will be served aboard. It is recommended to wear a wetsuit in order to neutralize the sea temperature, because it falls below 20ºC from June to November and it is up to 27ºC from December to May. The guide will pick up you in the lobby of the hotel ( Hotel pick up inside the Urban perimeter puerto ayora) We have 2 departures 09H00 AM or 14H00 PM, , the tour lasts between 3 hours. The pick up starts between 08:30 AM to 08:45 AM in the morning and 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM in the afternoon depending on the hotel where the pax is located. We will go to La Lobería (small islet located 10 minutes away from the port), site where we carry out the snorkeling activity in which there is the possibility of swimming with sea lions. Then we moved to Punta Estrada to watch birds such as: blue-footed boobies, seagulls and pelicans. Our third activity consists of an excursion to the Playa de los dogs where we can find iguanas in quantity around an area of volcanic rocks and sesuvium. Likewise, we continue towards the Channel of Love and the Shark Channel (in the latter we can make sightings of blue sharks). The tour end in Puerto Ayora's dock, there no drop off in the hotel . You have to go to your accommodation by yourself.
