Full description

Immerse yourself in the history of Madeira. Starting with pick-up from the lobby of your hotel, make your way to the Camacha Wickerwork Factory, (Closed at the moment due to Covid). Pass the Eucalyptus and Mimosa forests into the black forest of Madeira overlooking the Christmas pines, into the breathtaking mountains of Pico do Arieiro at 1,800 meters.  Taking the old road of Faial, Santana will be the next stop, where you can see the town's traditional thatched houses and vines. Stop for lunch (not included in the price). After the lunch stop in Santana, continue to Porto Cruz, passing the sugar cane fields. Visit the only steam rum factory in Europe (includes rum tasting) and the village. See the rough black sandy beach popular with surfers. In July and August, enjoy the chance to swim in the famous saltwater pool. Then travel along the North Coast where sugar cane terraces are still visible. See the old capital of Madeira, Machico, where the first Portuguese settlers arrived in the 15th century, before heading to Ponta de São Lourenço, the eastern point cape of the island where the rock formations will astound you. A nice toor exploring the north and east of the island with amazing differences in the vegetation. For my taste the stops could be optimized: e.g. the stay in Santana could be shortened whereas at other stops the time was rather short. Additionally, the tour was given in portuguese, italian and english which was ok, but sometimes the translations got shorted.

Its a good value for money. The schedule could be amended since on the first stop there was nothing to do (everything closed after covid), in Santana the stop was to long so after we had to rush in other places that had amazing views. All in all nice experience, especially if you are not able to get a car by yourself (the guide was driving very carefully in oppose to the local public transportation drivers :) )

Luciano was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable about the island and with a great sense of humor as well. Throughout the tour, he was cracking us up with jokes and sharing funny stories. We highly recommend this tour - the views were breathtaking and Luciano’s timing was perfect to beat the crowds in most popular points.
