Discover the forest and waterfalls in the Rabaçal area on this 3-hour guided walk in Madeira. Explore the vegetation of the Laurisilva Forest of Madeira and admire spectacular waterfalls as you walk along the island’s levadas (aqueducts).
What to Expect
Enjoy a 3-hour levada (aqueduct) walk with fascinating landscapes incorporating tremendous valleys, spectacular waterfalls, infinite laurel, header forest, and beautiful springs. This and much more is what the Rabaçal area has to offer.
At this height the landscape is dominated by moorland, which includes Erica arborea and Erica scoparia as well as Madeiran whortleberry. This vegetation alters with the altitude as it reduces other predominate species, including the rare mountain mocano (Pittosporum coriaceum). This area includes Madeira’s Laurisilva Forest, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
