Following a pick-up at your hotel in Funchal, you’ll begin this 90-minute tour to explore the city’s most historic areas. Your tuk tuk driver/guide will take you first to see the Old Town of Funchal, which dates back to the 16th century, when the island was colonized by the Portuguese. Stop at Barreirinha viewpoint and enjoy the panorama before continuing on to even more spectacular views at the next viewpoint, known as Vila Guida. Take in the sweeping view over the Bay of Funchal. Upon arrival, you can buy the tickets before starting your descent down the mountain in a "basket cart". The process of descending in a basket cart, which has over 100 years of history, consists of a thrilling 2-kilometer descent. Bound to be an experience you will never forget, your basket-cart ride will soon have you safely at the bottom of the mountain. Your driver/guide will be at the end of the trip waiting for you, at which point you will return to the city.

You could also head up into the hills to the top of Cabo Girão cliff where, at its highest point,  a glass sky-walk provides you with some breathtaking views over the south east coast and beach below. Close to Cabo Girão is Fajã do Padres, a sea side area in Madeira with no road or walking access. The only two ways to get there are by cable car ride or by boat. On the way up to Cabo Girão and Fajã dos Padres you will be able to admire an ever-changing landscape along the winding roads that fallow the natural shape of the hills. On the return trip to Funchal from the west coast you might choose to stop at the natural swimming pools of Doca do Cavacas. Travel on to Garajau, set at the east end of the bay of Funchal. You will be offered a spectacular view of the Christ the Redeemer statue - older than the one in Brazil - whilst marveling at the crystal-clear waters on the beach below. You also have the option to visit the Botanical Garden. Whatever your choice of itinerary, your guide will be there to help you at every moment.
