Full description
Begin this full-day 4x4 tour with a pick-up at your hotel in Funchal and travel deep into the southeast of Madeira. You’ll come to Machico town and the line that divides the north and south of the island. Take in breathtaking views of the Eagles Rock from Portela. Drive down, stopping in Porto da Cruz, which is the next must-see point. Visit a sugar cane factory, continue to the Faial coastline and then up to see the typical houses of Santana. These small straw-thatched triangular houses are emblematic of Madeira and intricate in their construction. Head down into the valley and through the forest to Riveiro Frio at an elevation of 1818 meters, the third-highest peak on the Island.

Our driver Miguel was informative, entertaining, full of life and did everything he could to make our day the fantastic experience that it was. We crammed so much in without it being rushed. The whole day was amazing and we got to see and do lots of different things around the island. We enjoyed it so much we have booked another trip with Miguel and the team for Wednesday. Thank you.

Excellent guide very interesting loads of interesting facts. Off road experience amazing especially when we came across a fallen tree his skill to get his vehicle around was great to watch as we had to leave the vehicle for our safety. The restaurant was very authentic and the food was delicious. We enjoyed the day so much we booked another to see the other side of the island.

Spencer is a super fun guide with a lot of knowledge about the island and its culture. Unfortunately we had a very cloudy and wet day in the north, which is why the summit of the mountain was icy and the view was not far. In good weather you would have a great view of the valley here. The stops at the rum distillery and in the restaurant were definitely worth it!
