Pedro was such an excellent driver/guide taking us to the starting point of the hike. I’m glad Logan sent us the weather and packing suggestions via whatsapp the day before because we did not think it was going to be so cold/wet. Even still, it was an amazing experience and we can’t wait to return to complete Pico do Pico since Ruivo was closed.

The organiser Logan provided regular updates regarding the hike including specifics regarding the weather forecasts and what to expect. The driver Nuno also delayed all this information before we started out, especially warnings about certain aspects of each hike given the poorer weather. During the drive back he took the time to point out various places in Funchal he would recommend eating and drinking

Hike at your own rhythm on a self-guided trek in Madeira with pick-up and dropoff at your accommodation. Explore Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, for the sunrise and view unique landscapes between Madeira's highest mountains (up to 1862 m). Get picked up at your accommodation with a shared transfer (up to 8 guests per van) and head to the 2nd highest mountain, Pico do Arieiro.

Get instructions and map explanations from your host along with a schedule. Hike for 5 hours from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo and then Achada do Teixeira (10 km).

Be picked up after the hike at Achada do Teixeira in the parking lot. Hike information:

Pickup and drop-off are available from the following areas: Funchal and Caniço only. Location such has Calheta, Ponta do Sol, Gaula, Santa Cruz, etc are NOT included in the pick up range. The day before, you will be contacted by the organizer by WhatsApp in order to confirm the pickup details and your pickup location. The time of the activity is an average starting time and the day before the hike, you will receive your exact pick up time. On the day of the activity, we have a very small tolerance for delays, so if you are not at the correct location and the correct time, your reservation will be considered a no-show.

  • This is a challenging and long hike of 10km with hills and many stairs
  • Weather conditions are very unpredictable in this part of the island. Therefore, your reservation could be canceled or postponed in the event of bad weather
  • Due to this, being able to watch the sunrise is not guaranteed
  • This experience involves some strenuous physical activity
  • The ticket is non-refundable 24 hours before the activity takes place, no matter which is the reason of cancellation (flight delay/cancellation, injuries, oversleep, food poisoning, etc).

The trip was fantastic! Pedro was our driver, but not just a driver because during the commute he shared a lot of nice insights about Madiera, including about "the sheriff" too bad he wasn't on duty when we drove by. The weather wasn't the best as it was mostly overcast and rainy, but there were a few moments when the sun emerged and that's something that you cannot control. Also, unfortunately part of the PR1 trail was closed at the time I went, so we had to do an alternate PR3 trail, but this was notified a head of time. The communicate with Logan was great and we were given good instructions on what to prepare for thr trail. I would definitely recommend doing some trails when you are here.
