Pickup and drop-off are available from the following areas: Funchal and Caniço only. Location such has Calheta, Ponta do Sol, Gaula, Santa Cruz, etc are NOT included in the pick up range. The day before, you will be contacted by the organizer by WhatsApp in order to confirm the pickup details and your pickup location. The time of the activity is an average starting time and the day before the hike, you will receive your exact pick up time. On the day of the activity, we have a very small tolerance for delays, so if you are not at the correct location and the correct time, your reservation will be considered a no-show.

Full description

Hike at your own rhythm on a self-guided trek in Madeira with pick-up and dropoff at your accommodation. Explore Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, for the sunrise or a later morning schedule. View unique landscapes between Madeira's highest mountains (up to 1862 m). Get picked up at your accommodation with a shared transfer (up to 8 guests per van) and head to the 2nd highest mountain, Pico do Arieiro.

Get instructions and map explanations from your host along with a schedule. Hike for 5 hours from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo and then Achada do Teixeira (10 km).

Be picked up after the hike at Achada do Teixeira in the parking lot. Hike information:

  • Weather conditions are very unpredictable in this part of the island. Therefore, your reservation could be canceled or postponed in the event of bad weather
  • Due to this, being able to watch the sunrise is not guaranteed
  • This experience involves some strenuous physical activity
  • The ticket is non-refundable 24 hours before the activity takes place, no matter which is the reason of cancellation (flight delay/cancellation, injuries, oversleep, food poisoning, etc).

Absolutely fantastic experience hiking Pico do Arieiro! Our driver, Filipe, was incredible – super knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole day so enjoyable. The transportation by minivan was comfortable, and Filipe went above and beyond, sharing great insights and recommendations about Madeira. Absolutely stunning sunrise and the Pico do Arieiro hike. Very windy! When watching the sunrise move around to get different views of the lighting of the mountains. It’s breathtaking! But don’t miss being still for the actual rising of the sun! It’s so amazing to watch! The second part of the tour was not so good because right now Trail 1 is closed due to the horrible fires, which is what is the normal day trip. Currently they have you doing trail 3, the donkey trail which I did not find very interesting. But worth it to do the first part of the day…the sunrise. I recommend hiking boots. Adriana, our driver, is very nice and kind and knows so much about the island. She has lived there her whole life. An excellent safe driver!
