What people are saying about Funchal

fantastic and worthy the money tour, with pro and friendly staff

I've seen many things on Madeira during this holiday, and definitely Dolphin and Whale Watching Tour was the best of them all. Weather was a little breezy and coldish, but it didn't matter, when the boat staff pointed to a group of bottlenose dolphins playing with waves. In a few moments we had a chance to see some whales hunting for fish. Two guys been sitting on mast doing great job finding the animals in the sea. Staff gave me a blanket, as I wasn't prepared for the temperature that dropped much during the cruise. People on the front sits got soaked by the water (still warm in the January) and they immediately been given towels and a poor girl who was having sea sickness also got help at once. Pilot of the boat was very happy to share interesting stories about Madeira and give us some tips and tricks useful later on the rest of holiday stay. Playful group of short-beaked common dolphins on the way back was a nice surprise for everybody and perfect finish for the trip.

Madeira: Dolphin and Whale Watching Tour from Funchal Reviewed by Anonymous, 19/01/2017

We saw 3 species in total: two kinds of dolphins and one kind of whale

Wonderful trip during which we could enjoy the impressive Atlantic ocean, the landscape of Madeira, but most importantly, the whales and dolphins we were there for. The weather was nice and warm, and the ocean was really calm and smooth. We were "escorted" by two types of dolphins: short-beaked common dolphin and bottlenose dolphin. Just before we had to turn back a couple of short-finned pilot whales made the whole trip worth it. However, this trip would have worth nothing without the competent support and service of both the land- and on-board crew! All the boys and girls knew really well what they were doing there, and strived for the best service possible. Needless to say, I had more contact with the crew on the boat, and they answered competently all my questions, regardless of whether they were directly related to the cruise or not. In short: highly recommended! I'll be back! ;)

Great trip - free second trip if the wildlife doesn't show!

Despite a great trip and the opportunity to take a dip in the sea at the foot of Cabo Girao, the dolphins/whales were a no show. However, VMT Madeira offers a free second trip if that happens, which was worth the additional expense when compared to some of the slightly cheaper trips available. I took my second trip a few days later in the afternoon and we were treated to a turtle passing by the boat and a pod of dolphins that swam ahead of the boat for a good 10 minutes. Great trip, great staff and would definitely recommend - the insurance of a second trip is definitely worth it.

Be aware that this is the second of two cable cars you can use

Cable car was great, but it is half way u8pmthe mountains outside Funchal. You either have to take a bus or taxi to the start of this cable car or take another cable car fron Funchal itself .This starts close to the market and takes you up half wat to the Monte gardens. A 10 minute walk takes you to the start of the second cable car to the Botanical Gardens. Trip and gardens are great just remember the journey to get their!

A lovely experience and we did see a pod of dolphins

A lovely sunny day with clear view allowed us to view Madeira from the water. Nice catamaran with plenty of space for everyone, bar and toilets on board, a professional crew who even managed to find a pod of dolphins to view and then steered us back to Funchal close to the coast, explained the sights along the way.
