From Colmar: 3 Villages in France, Germany, and Switzerland

1. From Colmar: 3 Villages in France, Germany, and Switzerland

Your 3-country adventure begins with pickup from your accommodation in Colmar. On your way to Germany, you’ll pass by the fortified village of Neuf-Brisach, a UNESCO world heritage site dating back to the late 17th century.  From there, you'll drive to Germany and visit Freiburg, one of the treasures of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Amble through the streets that seem ripped straight from a fairytale, taking note of the channels of water that runs right alongside sidewalks. Afterward, you'll pass through another border bound for Basel in Switzerland. Divided into 2 parts by the Rhine river, the city has much to offer, with its picturesque bridges, narrow, winding alleyways, and stunning cathedrals.  Wandering through the medieval town of Great Basel, look for the unique cultural aspects of the city that differentiate it from other Swiss towns. Your day trip ends in perhaps the most charming and beautiful village in France: Eguisheim. Situated just south of Colmar, the town runs in concentric circles around a central plaza.  With tightly packed antique houses painted in brightly-colored hues, quaint shops, and a medieval castle, there are few villages in the world that so truly harken back to another age. Once your border-crossing adventure is over, you’ll return to your accommodation in Colmar.

What people are saying about Freiburg

This tour exceeded my expectations. The group size was small -- only seven of us total, including myself and my husband. This allowed us to set our own pace and sort of "vote" on what we wanted to prioritize or do. As our guide, Didier, told us at the beginning "This is not the sort of tour where you have to run after the man with the little flag". He encouraged us to wander and explore a little. He did a great job giving us plenty of good information without over-talking, and was always knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had. The place we had lunch was tasty, affordable, and down-to-earth. It had vegetarian options as well that were still regional and featured local cuisine. I have no complaints. Didier honestly went above and beyond to ensure that we all had a great day.

Didier was our guide and he took very good care of my friend Amy and I. He was full of knowledge and presented it well to keep it interesting. Loved all the places we visited and each one was so different than the others. I highly recommend this tour and also couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. Thanks Didier!

This one of the best tours that my wife and I have taken. Didier was an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable about every city we visited. The history and the architecture was amazing. Would highly recommend this tour.

Didier our tour guide has been really nice and helpful. Was an interesting tour over three states. During Christmas time even better!

Our tour guy, Laurent, was great and very friendly. It was an enjoyable trip for myself and my friend.
