Fraueninsel

Spend a lovely day out on a boat exploring the beautiful Chiemsee and its two picturesque islands, the Herreninsel and the Fraueninsel. Known as “the Bavarian Ocean,” Chiemsee is the largest fresh-water lake near Munich. Herreninsel boasts wonderful Herrenchiemsee, a palace built by King Ludwig II in 1878 in the image of Versailles in France. In some respects, however, Herrenchiemsee actually surpasses Versailes – its Hall of Mirrors is a famous example. With its elegant gardens and walkways and the beautiful interiors of gold, glass, and porcelain, the palace is a visually stunning monument to opulence. King Ludwig's difficult personality is reflected in his famous elevated dining table, which was raised and lowered through the floor so the reclusive King did not have to see his servants. Herrenchiemsee was to be the crown jewel of all palaces built by the Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig II. An unfinished copy of the Palace of Versailles, it was the first project of the Moon King and also the last to start construction, after buying the island of Herreninsel for that purpose. Also, the post-war Constitution of Germany was drafted on this island in August 1948. After the Inn Valley, pass the Wendelstein and discover idyllic lakes surrounded by impressive mountain scenery: first the circular Thiersee, then the picturesque Schliersee, the small Spitzingsee and the famous Tegernsee. Conclude your mountain tour with the beauty of the Ammergau Alpine landscape and the Plansee surrounded by mountains before the next highlight comes into view - the imposing fairytale castle of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein Castle at the foot of the mountains above the Forggensee. You then fly over the Murnauer Moos and the dark blue Staffelsee and Riegsee lakes to the colorful Osterseen lakes before flying over the Fünfseenland region with the popular Starnberger See lake.
