7:00 am. Departure from your hotel to the Salinas Lagoon at 4,300 m.a.s.l. between the Misti, Ubinas and Pichupichu volcanoes. During the whole year we can see vicuñas and sometimes llamas and alpacas. We can also see the viscacha, and if we are lucky, we can also see some Andean foxes. We can also observe a plant that only grows at more than 4,000 m.a.s.l. called Yareta (azorella compacta). Here we can see three different species of flamingos. - Phoenicopteras chilensis (Chilean flamingo). - Phoenicoparras andinas (large Andean Parihuana). - Phoenicoparras jamesi (small Andean parihuana). If there is not too much water we can even cross the lagoon in our 4x4. After visiting this protected area of the reserve we will return to Arequipa, being able to take pictures all along the way of beautiful landscapes as well as of the Misti volcano. See less

Hike the highest volcano Pico Grande

I will meet you at your accommodation in cha das caldeiras where we start with a small briefing, I will introduce you my land and all the surrounding areas of the volcano and give you the instructions for this hike. Afterwards we will start our hike starting from 1700 m above the sea level. the first hour goes easily trough lava field from the last eruption till 2000 m, after that you will face a serpentine path that goes trough rocks and ashes till 2300, here you will enjoy a wonderful view of the entire crater and the surrounding islands. When you reach the crater of the volcano you will see that it really worth to take this journey. The most funny part is the way down that goes trough ashes till the surrounding villages. At the end I will bring you back at your accommodation.

Everything was well planned and went smoothly and on time. The hike was a crazy adventure but our guide was experienced patient and adapted the hike to our level. It was very demanding but very fun and beautiful. The guide made it even better without a doubt and made us feel safe.
