Full description
Beginning with a narration of the historical and legendary origins of Troia, your tour will then proceed to a small description of the surrounding landscapes. After this introduction your guide will lead you in front of the wonderful Romanesque style cathedral. Built at the end of the 11th century this church is famous all around the world both for the simplicity of the architectural style (typical of the Romanesque style) and the deep and complex symbolism carved from the stones. Your guide will explain the beauty and the meaning of the unique rose window, particularly special due to it's unusual division in strange parts. Your guide will then explain other particular symbols spread around the facade that incorporate the presence of many different cultures existing in Troia during the foundation age. After that the exploration of the interior of the church will start. The guide will explain the stratification of the styles and how they reflect the patron saints they are dedicated to. After that the tour goes on with the description of the external absid, where symbolical decorations depict the story of the opposition between Troia and the emperor Frederick II. Following this you will visit the diocesan museum, taking in even more artwork and culture. The tour concludes with a trip to the oldest church in the region, San Basilio's. It's proto-Romanesque style will fascinate you with it's mix of mystical, linear beauty dominated by the use of bared stones.
