What to Expect
Immerse yourself in the culture and culinary delights of Florence.
Your very knowledgeable English-speaking guide will escort you to the first stop on this delightful tour, a typical 'vineria' serving an authentic Italian 'aperitivo'. You will also have the opportunity to taste an array of seasonal appetizers together with olives and cheeses. While you sample the local delicacies your guide will explain their origin and tell you how they are prepared.
You will then have a wine-tasting session with wines from Tuscan vineyards. Your guide will teach you the principles of viticulture and wine-making and explain the main characteristics of the areas where each different wine is produced. You will also learn how to recognise the different colours and perfumes of the various wines.
As you meander through the streets of Florence to the next food stop your guide will explain a little about the main sights. The history of the various ‘piazzas’ is fascinating with most having originally been open-air markets where the Florentines bought their daily groceries.
Your guide will explain some of the jealously-guarded recipes of the classic dishes of the region that have been passed down over the centuries from generation to generation. But you will also get an opportunity to taste some of them: Tuscan soups; delicious pasta; meat specialities; flavorsome vegetable dishes (contorni) and much more. A true feast for the senses: you walk to seven stunning locations in the city to savour different local specialities whilst drinking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city of art and culture.
