What to Expect
Experience the true heart of Tuscany. Explore enchanting medieval villages, and learn about the ancient Italian farming tradition that produces wine, cheese, cold cuts and excellent meat which continues to be world-renowned today. The beauty of the landscape also speaks of a harmonious balance between man and nature.
Driving through the undulating expanses of vineyards and olive groves, you will experience a picturesque introduction to the splendid Chianti territory. Enjoy the charm of Greve’s historic square flanked by open galleries and wander around the shops filled with local handicrafts and the typical Chianti products.
We continue with a stop in Castellina, an ancient hamlet perched high atop hill, where we visit an ancient and historical cellar. Just outside the village, in one of the most famous vineyards of the area, you will be treated to an indulgent tasting experience. Here you will be guided through a tasting of different wines from the Chianti area, extra virgin olive oil on Tuscan bread and Vin Santo with "cantuccini" - a locally produced and lavender honey.
Proceeding along a panoramic road you can admire picturesque village of Monteriggioni, a small medieval jewel still encased by its ancient walls. Further on, admire the unmistakable clay landscape of the Crete Senesi, before we reach an area that contrasts incredibly with this beautiful landscape.
Gaze at the famous “Via Francigena”, immersed in the green Val d'Orcia and UNESCO world heritage listed, a truly breathtaking landscape to behold. The skyline is dotted with cypresses, castles, churches, majestic ancient villages of Etruscan origin. In a historic farm you will enjoy a guided lunch-tasting of the renowned Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello and Supertuscan wines and a large selection of authentic Tuscan products. A visit to the cellars will follow your delicious and indulgent meal. We then make a stop in the medieval village of Montalcino, with boundary walls guarded by towers and an imposing fourteenth century fortress that offers one of the most beautiful views onto Val d’Orcia.
Finally, we will reach the town of Montepulciano, enclosed by fortified walls and perched on a hill 600 metres above sea level between Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana. The town is renowned for its local wine obtained from the surrounding vineyards. Our day tour will conclude with a stop in town to explore the elegant streets and admire the splendid Renaissance buildings and churches and perhaps sample some more delicious wine.
