What to Expect
Experience the age-old art of fresco painting first-hand, by taking our 3-hour workshop in Florence.
Fresco is the revered art of painting on a fast-drying damp plaster with water-based pigments. It’s an art with a long history . During the Renaissance, fresco painting was considered the true test of an artist's skill, because the artist had to finish before the plaster dried in order to ensure the adhesion of the image to the wall. As a result, only truly skilled artists were able to create beautiful and harmonious frescoes.
This beautiful technique was first used in the 11th and 12th centuries as a means of decoration in churches. Major fresco works such as Giotto's Bardi Chapel in Santa Croce, Masaccio's Trinity in Santa Maria Novella, and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel in Rome demonstrate the importance of fresco in the history of art, particularly in the history of Renaissance art.
Our 3-hour fresco workshop gives you a hands-on experience with the materials and techniques used for fresco painting. You will then be guided through the steps of preparing a surface, drawing and transferring that drawing, and finally applying the paint.
When your masterpiece is finished, you can take home your own fresco, a truly unique souvenir by which to remember your trip to Florence.
