    Full description
Take a walk through the piazzas of Florence and learn about the city’s fascinating history on a guided tour through the historic center. Admire the exterior of the magnificent Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore, which has the biggest masonry dome in the world – the marvel of the architect Filippo Brunelleschi. From your guide, hear about the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the oldest building in the city with its splendid Gates of Paradise. Cross the Ponte Vecchio, stopping to admire the tiny jewelry shops that used to be butcher stalls. Continue to Dante's district and then finish the walking tour in the political center of Florence at Piazza della Signoria, home to many original sculptures by Renaissance artists. Then, after skipping the long ticket lines, you’ll enter the Accademia gallery. Begin your tour with a visit to the Medici family’s collection of musical instruments. See the most expensive Stradivarius in the world, as well as other unique instruments. Continue to see the Prisoners and San Matteo by Michelangelo, then admire the artist’s most iconic sculpture, David. Learn about this statue’s creation and the history of the piece of marble that Michelangelo used to sculpt his masterpiece.

    Fantastic

This was our first afternoon in Florence and it was such a pleasurable experience. It gave us the basics of the city so we could then explore on our own knowing exactly what we were looking at, with all the history in mind.
