Fleurieu Peninsula

Get picked up from your accommodation in Glenelg between 8:30- 9:00 AM or Adelaide at 9:00 – 9:30 AM for a full day of sightseeing around the gorgeous Fleurieu Peninsula.  Enjoy the scenic drive from Adelaide through the Adelaide Hills before arriving in the historic German village of Hanhdorf. Here you can treat yourself to morning tea at the famous Hahndorf Inn (at your cost). Hahndorf has so many things to see and door including the beautiful Antique Clock Museum, opal shop, one of Australia’s best Fudge Shops, and many craft shops, boutiques, bakeries and coffee shops. We spend an hour in the village so there’s plenty of time to explore or just sit and watch the world go by! Travelling onto the coastal town of Goolwa, with a stop at one of South Australia’s most popular surfing beaches before we head towards beautiful Victor Harbor, making sure to look out at Basham Beach in case we see a whale! (which is likely during Whale Season!) Next, explore the seaside town of Victor Harbor where you can visit the Whale Center and Museum. Visit the Whale Centre and Museum, take the optional choice of seeing Granite Island with its fairy penguins or ride the famous horse-drawn tram. Enjoy a seamless experience with lunch included at Café Primo. We take care of everything, so you can relax and enjoy the day. Your last stop of the day will be McLaren Vale, one of Australia's oldest and finest olive, wine, and almond-growing regions. Taste wine at our last stop D'arenberg Cube, purchase some locally-grown, homemade delicacies before returning back to your accommodation at around 5:30 PM.

Breathtaking 90-minute tour departing from the iconic Granite Island Causeway, Victor Harbor. Board our specially designed ocean craft ‘Pungari’ – 12.5m NAIAD Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat & cruise between the mainland and the northern side of Granite Island, affording spectacular views of both the Victor Harbor shoreline and boulder stacked Granite Island. Seal Rock/Island is our first stop, where Long Nosed Fur Seals and Australian Sea Lions bask between rocky outcrops in the sun or can be found pondering around fishing and swimming about. We continue our Southern Ocean journey; on past the huge granite boulders of Wright Island and the Bluff, keeping a careful eye through Shark Alley - where your knowledgeable Skipper & Guide interpret local whaling history & cultural dreaming landmarks of the area. Pushing on past the western side of the Bluff, you begin to get a scope for the rugged coastal landscape inspiring to observe from the water. West Island Conservation Park, complete with a lonely stone research hut and another colony of seals and sea lions can be found basking on the rocks and swimming in the shallows. Seabirds abound in this remote area and often pods of Common and Bottlenose Dolphins can be spotted playing or feeding. The Big Duck heads further west past the darkly, spectacular, towering sea cliffs of Kings Beach and Waitpinga before turning around and heading back to the Granite Island Causeway. Cruising throughout the Encounter Marine Park, the scenery, marine wildlife, and exhilarating ride aboard ‘The Big Duck’ RHIB is a journey to remember! Throughout the cooler wintery months (July – September) we are blessed with the yearly migration of Southern Right & Humpback Whales. Humpbacks are regularly seen in the beginning and conclusion of the season; where Southern Rights court, mate, birth and nurse their calves in the bay! Making our winter season an additional delight, despite the cooler conditions. We alter our itinerary through the Whale season to search in known locations and take in whale watching as these majestic mammals bask in our relatively warm waters of Encounter Bay.

Embark on a scenic cruise along the north coast of Granite Island. Victor Harbour is located on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia, about 90 minutes and 80 km south of the center of Adelaide. Pass the route of the old horse-drawn tramway and see the historic Screwpile Jetty as you venture around the breakwater and into the open ocean. Continue for 5 minutes to arrive at Seal Island (also known as "Seal Rock"), where New Zealand fur seals and Australian sea lions can be seen basking in the sun. Delight to the sight of the seals that often swim to the stationary boat for a good look at the passengers!  Keep a lookout for other wildlife, including petrels, shearwaters and cormorants, on or around Seal Island. You might even spot some common or bottlenose dolphins that are often in the vicinity and sometimes race the boat. After 15 minutes of wildlife viewing at Seal Island and around Wright Island, cruise back to the Granite Island Causeway at Victor Harbour and disembark.

A delicious lunch is served on board as we cruise downstream from the port of Goolwa along the historic wharf & towards the Goolwa Barrage. Travel through the lock chamber, down to sea level and spot a few lazy fur-seals lounging about. We then meander along the waterways of the Coorong, following the last kilometres of the mighty Murray River to the Murray Mouth and the its opening to the Southern Ocean. Cruise on past the Murray Mouth and into Storm Boy country, passing by the quaint fishing village of the Coorong Shacks before pulling up onto the beach for a optional guided walk through the dunes, Indigenous Midden site, rich cultural interpretation and bush-tucker trail to the infamous 90-Mile Beach and the roaring Southern Ocean. Learn the 'Coorong Shuffle' and dig for Pipi's on the beach before returning back to the vessel and continuing our cruise past Storm Boy filming sites and towering dunes. Afternoon Tea is served on the meandering return journey back to Goolwa. Beautiful scenery, bird-life, seals and expert commentary along the way - this 3.5 hour cruise of Discovery is the perfect way to see the remote and wondrous wetlands of the Coorong.

Visit one of the many pubs or cafes for lunch, and following that, you may choose to explore Granite Island, where you might even catch a glimpse of a Southern Right Whale during the winter months. Your tour then continues through the wine-making region of McLaren Vale, best known for producing outstanding Shiraz, and you'll enjoy a scenic drive through South Australia’s southern metropolitan beaches of Port Noarlunga and Moana before returning to Adelaide.

Depart from Wirrina Cove Marina (October - April) and cruise south along the spectacular Fleurieu Peninsula coastline. See the stunning headlands, cliffs, bays and pristine turquoise waters of St. Vincent Gulf. The perspective from the water is incredible as you pass by Second Valley, Rapid Bay, and Cap Sevinge. Amazing geological formations make up the rugged coastline with towering cliff-faces, rolling hills, with caves and hidden coves. Make your way past Rapid Bay and its jetties and quarry to visit the local fur seal colony, with a few lazy seal lions to be found around Rapid Head. Try and spot soaring white-bellied sea eagles circling above the towering cliffs and catch a look at the huge wind turbines of Starfish Hill Wind Farm before making your way back up along the coast to the departure point at Wirrina Cove.
