Full description

Experience the prehistoric site of Akrotiri at your own pace with a skip-the-line e-ticket and a captivating self-guided audio tour on your smartphone. Travel back in time to experience the curious, spine-chilling history of the site of Akrotiri, frozen in time by the eruption of the Santorini volcano.

Put on your headphones and explore the layout of the prehistoric town, once buried under ashes, through the power of storytelling. Learn historical information about its affluent residences, known as Xeste, and little-known stories and anecdotes about the daily lives of its inhabitants.

The content of the tour is the result of in-depth research, distilled into brief original stories that will make your visit both engaging and educational. The audio tour can be used repeatedly and at any time, before or after your visit.

This is an unmissable opportunity to gain valuable insights into the archaeology of a prehistoric residential space that has been literally frozen in time, providing a snapshot of life just before its residents decided to flee the increasing fury of the neighboring volcano.

As a result, you will relate to your surroundings in an entirely original way.

It was a struggle to figure out that the ticket was in the .PDF that was sent via email. Also the path in the middle was closed off, so I couldn't really see what was going on and what the voice of the audio tried to tell/show. But besides that it was absolutely wonderful to get all the information!

We appreciated the audio guide because there were very few explanatory posters on the site. However, directions should be better indicated visually and not just audibly. Also, we were not allowed to go off the "broadwalk" as the audio guide directed us. It was confusing, the points of view were not the same. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The site is fascinating, and the audio tour is an absolute must. We wouldn't have known anything without it. However, the audio needs to be updated. There are several places where, previously, one could walk down to be eye level with the buildings. These areas are now roped off and inaccessible, so it's easy to get lost in the audio as you can't physically be at the spot the guide is talking about. I still recommend the audio tho - it's extremely informative.
