A truly wonderful experience. Grey Lines tours really shined with their care and customer service. The guide had a significant amount of local knowledge and even gave us enough time to get some photos on the north side of the golden gate bridge. The tour went like clock work. Even though their was a tight schedule we never felt rushed and had plenty of time to soak up all the sights. We highly recommend getting the ferry back from sausilito, this will give you plenty of time to enjoy the town and relax yourself back to San Francisco. Don't forget to check your emails and confirm the timing of your tour! Even though we booked the 9am tour it was confirmed as 11am, this is due to the changes in parking for Muir Woods. For us this was anticipated as we made sure that we contacted Grey Lines a week before, and via the phone on the day. Altogether a wonderfully unique experience from a tour company we now trust and appreciate.
Our bus commentator (not on every bus) was hilarious and informative. When we were on a bus without the live person, the recorded info was great to listen to as well. Doing the combo tour let us see alcatraz when tickets were sold out everywhere! Alcatraz was also a welcome surprise. So much cooler than anticipated. We listened to the audio and hopped back on the boat. Took about 1 hour. We were cramming our days so didn't have much more time to spend than that, but definitely worthwhile!
I only had a half-day free for SF and really wanted to see the Forrest - this fit the bill although it is listed as a 3hr tour, then I got my confirmation it said 3.5hrs and in reality, it was more like 4.5 hrs so plan accordingly - The 9 am tour was perfect not too crowded and Muir Woods did not disappoint just breathtaking! Our tour guide was great and very informative - I would do it again if I was short on time! Also super safe for a woman traveling alone!
The Alcatraz tour was really well organised and very interesting especially the audio tour of the prison. The ticket for the bus was definitely worth the money as we got to see lots of the city and Sausalito. The guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining. The only criticism was the occasional long waits to get on the bus as they were very busy but the operators did their best to get everyone on as quickly as they could. I would recommend this tour.
Themuseum is simply stunning, and its staff superb. The collections are tastefully displayed and everything is user-friendly. The only downside I have to report is that the main food offerings were over the top expensive. My suggestion is to have more reasonably-priced items to eat and you will do much more business. This is why I gave a four rather than a five star rating for the museum.
