Skaftafell National Park: Falljokull Glacier Advanced Hike

In southeast Iceland, Skaftafell is a stunning nature reserve that is teeming with breathtaking natural wonders. On a glacial outflow of the Vatnajökull glacier called Falljokull, you will investigate one of these wonders. In addition to being the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull is also a part of Iceland's highest mountain range. Twenty minutes before departure, you will meet your highly skilled glacier guide at Troll Expeditions Skaftafell, where your tour will begin. Your guide will provide you all the equipment you need once you get there, including a helmet, crampons, a harness, and an ice axe. Some businesses don't supply all the necessary safety equipment, so please remember that wearing a safety helmet is crucial to protecting your head while hiking. After getting ready, you will set out to reach the glacier. Your guide will explain how to utilize your equipment and the safest manner to walk on a glacial surface following a quick 10-minute ride on the "Tröll Bus" and a short walk to the glacier. Falljökull, which means "The falling glacier," is a glacier outlet from Vatnajökull. The region's icefall is extremely uncommon on Earth, and the farther you go, the more astounding the ice formations become. These include crevasses, deep fissures in the glacier's surface, and so-called moulins, which are frequently vertical shafts in the ice created when melting water seeps into cracks and fissures. It is frequently possible to see the stunning blue heart of the ice throughout the winter by peeping into tiny ice tunnels. You will spend roughly three hours on the actual glacier. The view will grow more breathtaking the farther we venture up to the ice fall. Because we will be so far up, we will be able to see sweeping views of Skaftafell National Park, which has been well-known in recent years as the breathtaking backdrop for numerous films and television series, including James Bond, Interstellar, Batman, and Game of Thrones. Your glacier guide will inform you about the hazards and the formation of glaciers throughout your journey. Additionally, you will study about the future and effects of global warming.

A really interesting and excuting tour with eccellent guides. We spent long time exploring the higher part of the glacier, crevasses, falls, etc. If you go for a glacier hike, unless you have small kids go for this tour ( the easy tour only shortly visit the lower and less interesting area of the glacier) Quite chalkengng almost 7 hour from meeting till returning at the hut but really worth it. We have great guides.
