What You'll Do
  • Experience El Yunque rainforest while it's asleep and as it wakes at night
  • Listen to the twilight sounds of tree frogs, bats, owls and more
  • Follow walking trails to the Mameyes river or swim in the "Las Damas" pool
See, hear and smell the flora and fauna of the El Yunque rainforest on a twilight nature walk. Enter the forest as the sun prepares to set and experience the nocturnal wildlife come to life. Hear the sound of insects, tree frogs and much more.
What to Expect
Experience the nocturnal wildlife of the El Yunque rainforest on a unique twilight nature walk. Around 60% of the forest's inhabitants are nocturnal and seldom seen during the daytime. Due to the strict opening hours of the forest park, all guests are required to leave the forest by 18:00.

Discover a side to the rainforest that few ever see, hear or smell. Enter the forest about 1 hour before sunset and take a guided nature walk to learn about its daytime flora and fauna. Trek along man-made and natural trails that wind through the forest to a wild and scenic river called the "Mameyes."

If the weather permits, take a dip in "Las Damas" (Ladies' Pool), one of the finest of El Yunque’s natural swimming holes. Alternatively, relax on the river banks and listen to the water rushing through the rocks. After approximately 30 minutes, walk back out at twilight.

All the diurnal animals are now preparing to rest, while the nocturnal animals (active during night time hours) are coming to life. Notice the cooling of the air and the rise of the dew points as the sounds become more intense and new smells fill the air.

Bats take flight (the only mammal endemic to Puerto Rico), while screech owls can be heard in the distance. Listen to the noise of insects and the mating call of up to 17 species of tree frogs as El Yunque's aquatic life awakes. This is an adventure not to be missed.
