Regardless of your familiarity or interests, 2 days in Atlanta can show you the best this city has to offer. We put together the optimal itinerary for your stay, complete with enough restaurants and entertainment to fill your belly and your brain. The A is known for its historic landmarks, sunny (and humid) weather, and booming restaurant scene. Come prepared to study, sweat, and savor during your 48 hours in Atlanta.
Day 1
7:00 AM
We know it’s an early wake-up call, but you want to make the most of your weekend itinerary in Atlanta. If you’re visiting in the summer, you will appreciate the cool weather in the early morning. Grab a classic southern breakfast at Atlanta Breakfast Club. After fueling up on authentic chicken and waffles, you are ready to start your day. For the vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free crowd, this restaurant has you covered.
09:00 AM
Before the crowds arrive, take advantage of the quiet streets and visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. Walk the same streets where King grew up, went to church, and worked as a pastor. For a complete experience, take a guided walking tour to hear a complete history of the district. Listen to detailed stories, see historic artifacts, and make a lasting impact with a donation to the King Center included in admission.
12:00 PM
After all that walking, you deserve a solid lunch. Thankfully, you happen to be close to Fox Bros. BBQ. This authentic southern barbecue joint offers chicken-fried ribs, smoked brisket, pulled pork, and plenty of other mouth-watering options.
2:00 PM
Time to shake yourself out of that food coma. Did you know Atlanta is known as “Hollywood of the South” because so many movies and TV shows are filmed here? On this guided tour, you can see a variety of famous filming locations throughout the city. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will recognize Avengers Headquarters, the Korean marketplace from Black Panther, and several others. Fast and Furious enthusiasts will drive along the same roads from Fast & Furious 7 chase scenes. Boy, that escalated quickly...stop by the park where the iconic news anchor brawl from Anchorman was filmed. If you are particularly interested in The Walking Dead, you might prefer a tour specifically dedicated to the show.
5:00 PM
All those years of stepping on bricks at night and splitting apart pieces with your fingernails are about to pay off. You’re going to LEGOLAND. Did you ever build a tower from LEGO bricks and think it could withstand an earthquake? Put your engineering skills to the test at the Earthquake Tables. If you need a bit of inspiration, or just want to get an idea of how big Atlanta is, check out MINILAND. This LEGO replica of Atlanta is made of over 1.5 million bricks. No matter your age, LEGOLAND is a great way to feel like a kid again.
7:30 PM
Catch a game (and maybe a foul ball, so bring your glove) at Truist Park. Cheer on the Atlanta Braves and enjoy a hot dog while you watch America’s pastime. As one of the most recognizable teams in Major League Baseball, Braves baseball is the perfect end to your first day.
Day 2
08:00 AM
Kick off your second day with a visit to Sweet Auburn Curb Market. Build your own breakfast from this market, which has been in business for over 100 years. For a unique breakfast, check out the Caribbean grocery section to build something new.
10:00 AM
Be there when the gates open for the College Football Hall of Fame. Start your visit at the three-story helmet wall and try to find your favorite team. Need some help? Just choose it from the screen and watch it light up. After exploring over 50 interactive exhibits, you might feel inspired to join the ranks of Charles Woodson and Desmond Howard. Prove your worth at the skill zone, where you can test your abilities on an indoor football field. Show off your quarterback skills, kick a field goal, and run the obstacle course in record time.
1:00 PM
Maybe it’s best to leave football to the professionals. Head over to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for an Atlanta Falcons football game. Even if you aren’t a die-hard football fan, the stadium itself is a marvel. After opening in 2017, it is considered one of the best stadiums in the National Football League. Keep your eyes up during the game to catch replays and graphics on the “Halo,” a 58-by-1,100-foot video board circling the upper ring of the stadium. This stadium is known for affordable concessions, so go ahead and treat yourself to an extra helping of nachos. Even if the game gets out of hand, stick around to see what happens...you never know when you’ll see a massive comeback. Too soon?
4:00 PM
As your time in Atlanta winds down, give yourself one last experience with a refreshing visit to the World of Coca-Cola. Learn about the history of this iconic drink and snap a photo with the famous Coca-Cola Polar Bears. Sample over 100 flavors and watch the bottling process. You might even watch to grab a case of your favorite flavor to sip on your return trip. It will feel like you are bringing a piece of Atlanta home with you.
