Full description
Immerse yourself in the sensory overload that is Essaouira. This fascinating city is a bit off the beaten path, meaning that it’s full to the brim with authentic local life just waiting to be explored. The seaside medina is home to local fishermen hauling in their daily catch as well as family bakeries churning out traditional pastries, and on this 3-hour Essaouira tour you’ll get to experience all of this and more! After meeting your local guide under the clock tower just inside the medina walls, you’ll begin your Essaouira city tour with a stop at the oldest pastry shop in the city. As Essaouira was once home to a large Jewish community, the pastries made here are time-honored family recipes you won't find elsewhere in Morocco. Next, you’ll head up onto the ramparts of the city and to an old watchtower, where you’ll have impressive 360-degree views of Essaouira, its port, and the ocean. Head deep into the medina, the center of the action in Essaouira. Meet a local artist in his studio and check out some of his work, discovering Moroccan artwork at the source. See a brief demonstration on Arabic calligraphy from a local artist as well. Take in the atmospheric fish market and enjoy a savory lunch of grilled fish. Being on the coast, you can definitely expect the freshest and most sustainable seafood to choose from. Sit down at wood benches and tables, right alongside the locals, and pick your fresh fish to be grilled. Finally, you’ll head outside the medina to try a typical Moroccan dessert, and then finish up at an herbalist's shop to wash everything down with an aromatic Moroccan royal tea, a proprietary blend mixed right on the spot! Once the tour ends, your local guide will be happy to give you some more recommendations for things to see in Essaouira, or assist you in finding your way back to your accommodation.

Frankly, this was one of the most amazing tours I've ever had in my life. Said Zaoui was a very personable, fun and knowledgeable guide and shopping together at the local markets, taking a walk through the narrow streets and then having lunch and tea together was just a very unique experience that we're going to remember for a long time. We loved being taken off the beaten paths a little (the Jewish Quarter was really worth visiting) and in general the day felt just like a stroll with a friend. The tour takes longer than three hours (I think it was more than 5 hours in fact) but we weren't bored for one minute. We only had very limited time in Essaouira and taking this tour helped to make our short stay very special.

Absolutely fabulous

We had a wonderful time with Saed. He told us many interesting stories and history of Essaouira and we really experienced the local culture. He was very patient and paced his tour to sit or abilities. It was the best guiding experience we had in all of Morocco. Many thanks, Saed.
