From Marrakech: Essaouira Private Full-Day Trip

3. From Marrakech: Essaouira Private Full-Day Trip

Take a full-day private trip to Essaouira, one of Morocco’s most attractive coastal towns. Admire its undeniable charm, with whitewashed and blue shuttered houses, art galleries, wood workshops, fishermen and colorful boats, all enclosed by ancient red walls. Your private tour starts with pickup at your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Depart Marrakech, driving through lush valleys filled with orange groves, ancient olive trees, and working farms. Stop at Chichaoua for a coffee or snack at Cafe Afoulki. Continue past your first Argan trees. These special trees are valued for their nutritive, cosmetic, and medicinal properties. A relic species from the Tertiary Period, it is extremely well adapted to drought and other environmentally difficult conditions of southwestern Morocco and, while now endangered, under the protection of UNESCO. Arrive in Essaouira and wander the ancient streets, where it’s easy to imagine life before you. The streets have a Portuguese feel after they renamed the city in the 16th century and used it as a port city of their own. Dine on fish straight from the sea at any number of local restaurants, and ride a camel on the beach. After some free time to explore on your own, return to Marrakech for drop-off at your hotel or riad.

Said was our driver for the day and he was brilliant. He told us lots of interesting things about Morocco on our journey and was happy to answer any questions we had, we would highly recommend asking for him when booking as he makes you feel very at ease! He’s super friendly and is a natural at his job! We were shown around the town by Hassan who was extremely knowledgeable and good at his job. Definitely recommend doing a private tour for this as it’s a long journey and nice to have the comfort of your own vehicle.

You can start the tour smoothly with perfect communication with the operator before the meeting. It's about an hour camel ride, but it was the perfect time allocation and content for us with a 5-year-old son. The staff were friendly and their photography skills were excellent, providing us with some great memories. Highly recommended.

Omar our driver for the day picked us up from the hotel. Available and attentive. The journey, even if long, shouldn't scare you because Omar explains a lot of things along the way and everything becomes very interesting. The city of Essaouira is really very pleasant and the guide made us appreciate it even more.

Mohammad was a very knowledgeable, patient and accommodating driver/guide. He was also a safe driver and followed speed limits. We indicated our interests and plans and he went out of his way to accommodate our requests. He was a fountain of information on the trip.

We did a one hour camel ride with our 4 and 6 year old children, it was really amazing!
