Yogyakarta: Mt. Merapi Sunrise, Jomblang & Pindul Cave Tour

Our guide Ahmad was great! While he drove us to the three locations, he taught us a lot about indonesian culture and the region of Yogyakarta. He was very accomodating, always waited for us (even if we took longer than planned) and was helpful all the time. He made sure that everyting went extremely smooth and gave various hints about the activities. The tour took about 14 hours in total - but I recommend it. On the tour itself: The Jeep ride to the Merapi was fun, the Guide explained everything we wanted to know about the Vulcano and the eruption. We also saw some wild apes on the way back! Afterwards, Ahmad drove us to the Jomblang Cave, where we descended about 60 meters into the deep. It was very muddy so I recommend wearing clothes that can get dirty and bringing a flashlight. After a short lunch on top of the cave we drove to Pindul cave. We floated though a cave filled with hundreds of bats and then down the open river before driving back to the hotel. Bring a swimsuit!

Me and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the best during the whole day and the content of the trip. Sunrise was superb and energising. Jomblang cave was an experience in itself. One cannot explain that in words. Pindul cave tour along with an eventful sail across the river is memorable. It was raining and that added real fun! Our guide and driver Mr Teguh ( Eddy) is humble, very good and accommodating. This being a long journey from 4 AM to almost 7.30 PM we need a very reliable and great companion in the form of driver.
