Nuremberg Old Town and Nazi Rally Grounds Walking Tour

Nuremberg Old Town and Nazi Rally Grounds Walking Tour

Meet us in front of the train station (Hauptbahnhof) and explore Nuremberg’s medieval walled Old Town as well as the infamous former Nazi Rally Grounds on this English-language tour. See the Craftsmen's Court, where local artisans still work with traditional materials and methods, and enjoy views over the city from the Imperial Castle courtyards, where Holy Roman Emperors ruled Germany for over 500 years. Explore Gothic churches with inspiring works by master artists, admire some of the best preserved medieval fortifications in Europe, and find out where to try the city's famous sausages and amber lager. Stroll through the Hauptmarkt, where colorful markets have been held for nearly 700 years. Take in the seasonal markets and festivals, including the Christmas markets in December, while getting recommendations from your guide on where you can enjoy the best traditional food, beer, and wine in the city. You'll hear tales and legends from the middle ages and renaissance, as well as get practical information about the city today. After seeing the Old Town, we take a break for lunch in the marketplace before boarding a bus to the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds. Some of the largest Third Reich remains left in the world still silently testify to the megalomania of a madman. We'll show you the parade grounds, where Adolf Hitler inspected columns of SS men and performed pseudo-religious cult rituals before the saluting masses as part of the Nazi propaganda machine. You'll also learn how the city of Nuremberg deals with this dark part of its past today. Then we enter the remains of the Congress Hall of the Nazi Party, Hitler's half-finished attempt to build a Roman Colosseum. FInally, we take a tram (streetcar) back at the train station (Hauptbahnhof) where the tour began. All public transportation costs are included in the tour price. The total time of the tour including lunch break is about 4 hours. Our goal is to both inform and entertain the English-speaking visitors to this great city. We offer tours led by experienced, fluent English-speaking guides and believe the best way to see Nuremberg is on foot.

Frankfurt: Guided Bike Tour

Frankfurt: Guided Bike Tour

This bike tour is ideal for both Frankfurt locals and new visitors to the city. The tour offers the perfect mix of famous landmarks (the "Römer", European Central Bank, the Goethe House, the Old Town), and insider tips. Your qualified tour guide will show you the most beautiful sides of Frankfurt. Your tour begins in the heart of Sachsenhausen, one of the most popular districts in the city. Numerous old buildings from the Gründerzeit (Wilhelminian era) give the neighborhood its flair, as well as numerous trendy bars, cozy cafés, and a wide selection of restaurants and traditional cider taverns. Here, traditional food is served in a rustic setting together with cider. Sachsenhausen was dominated by orchards up until the 19th century and apple cider was produced here. Cycle through small streets and the painters’ quarter to the southern banks of the Main River with the famous Museum Embankment. Here you will find the Städel Museum with the spectacular extension and the renowned exhibitions, the Liebighaus, and the Museum of Applied Art. Cross over the Holbeinsteg bridge to the other side of the Main River and ride through Frankfurt’s old town. The Römer overlooks the old royal road leading to the Frankfurt Cathedral (which isn’t actually a cathedral) and the beautiful half-timbered buildings. St. Paul’s Church, the cradle of German democracy, is located only a few meters away. You will then ride along the Großer Hirschgraben to Goethe’s family residence. The famous writer was born here and spent his youth here. He impressively described this time in his autobiography. The green "Wallanlage" was built on the former medieval line of defense in the 20th century. Cycle through the heart of the city on traffic-free roads to the new and old opera houses, and admire the impressive cityscape with its high-rise towers. A detour takes you to the old stock exchange with the popular motif of the bull and bear. Back on the Wallanlage, you will cycle east of the city and return to the Main River. The new landmark of the city will then be located directly in front of you. The new tower of the European Central Bank (ECB) is the impressive counterpoint to the high-rise buildings located on the west side. One of the most popular bars in the city is situated right by the water, at the foot of the former wholesale market hall, which is now part of the ECB. The Oosten bar has a great terrace overlooking the city. Ride across the much acclaimed new bridge from the East Harbor back to the southern banks of the Main River. You will then cycle a few meters back to the starting point in Sachsenhausen, where the tour ends. At the end of the trip your tour guide will show you the traditional cider taverns in Frankfurt. The bike route takes you along quiet, traffic-free cycle paths and roads. Your tour guide will provide detailed information on the sights during regular stops along the way.
