Vesuvius is a stratovolcano located in Italy, in a dominant position over the Gulf of Naples, in Campania. Its current shape is the result of the fusion with an older volcano, Mount Somma: the cone developed inside the caldera formed by the collapse of the upper part of Somma due to powerful explosive eruptions, among which the one in 79 AD stands out. La storia del Vesuvio è legata alla pianura campana, ai centri urbani alle sue falde e all'importanza archeologica di luoghi come Pompei ed Ercolano It is one of the two active volcanoes in continental Europe (more precisely it is defined as quiescent, dating back to the last eruption 80 years ago) as well as one of the most studied and dangerous in the world due to the high population of the surrounding areas and its explosive characteristics. The Vesuvian area in fact has a high population density and the number of residents potentially in danger is around 700,000.

The guide picked us up from the meeting point and took us to the bus, where he told us what we should do when we arrived at the mountain. He also gave us some color coded stickers to differentiate between the different type of tours that we had booked. The driver took us there in the alloted time and from there we proceeded on our own to the crater. The walk takes around 30 minutes and is not at all demanding. Once we returned to the parking lot, another guide was there to wait for us and to make sure we got on the correct bus. There are multiple buses for the different tours that the agency has to offer. Once we got on, the driver took us back to pompeii and left us at the exact same spot from where we started our journey. I recommend this tour for everyone who wants to visit the volcano in a timely manner and not worry about how to get there by public transport.

The departure was postponed by an hour, I was informed about the change in time. The journey was comfortable. Upon arrival at the turnstile, I immediately got tickets and went to Vesuvius. I had two hours for the tour, which is enough. Everything is perfectly organized, I can only recommend it.

Wonderful! The view and the feeling of being on the most dangerous volcano in the world is indescribable! p.s.: bring your own water and be prepared not to find any bathrooms. Organize your transportation and don't start the tour after 3:30 p.m.
