Together we explore this vast underground landscape, by cavebike! We go left, right, see a heigh ceiling then low again, narrow, spacious, no idea of our whereabouts anymore. Do you think our guide still knows the way? Then we stop... Time for a short break! Some time to actually take in this landscape and discover the 40-metre-deep hidden stories. We get back on again, back into the dark tunnel system!" During the cavebiking you are going to explore the centuries old Sibbergroeve. Valkenburg: Guided Tour of the Nuclear Bomb Shelter

Valkenburg: Guided Tour of the Nuclear Bomb Shelter

Sheltering in the Municipal Cave began centuries ago during the Eighty Years' War. After that, the cave remained in use as a shelter until the Cold War. During the French Revolution and later, during the Second World War, thousands of people hid in the tunnel system. When the threat of nuclear war appeared, a bomb shelter was built. This shelter was equipped with all kinds of facilities that would make it a safe haven when the bomb would fall. During a tour trough the shelter, you go back in time and experience the feeling of hiding in the dark underground tunnels. The tour is unique and only available on the 19nd and 21st of April.
