Northern Lights Safari: For people who want the standard experience of a northern lights safari. The transport will be a comfortable bus to the destination and you will have several guides available for you to ask questions and learn about the Northern Lights. The guides will locate the best place to make a camp. During this camp, the guides will have a lesson and tell you the story behind the magical Northern Lights. When the Northern Lights finally show itself, photographers will be ready to take professional photos of you. Small Group 15 People Max: This product is for the people that appreciate a more private and cozy experience during transport and around the bonfire. You do pay a higher price. But not without any reason. The reason you take this product is because you want more attention from the guide. That also means you will have the opportunity to take more pictures during the safari. You will also be offered more food options, like grilling sausages over the bonfire. This is of course included in the price. Both products drive to the same area and will have the same chances of finding the Northern Lights! Our guides speak several languages. That being said, the Safari will be done in English, but you can request to be seated in the bus together with a guide that speaks your languages to help with translation. We can not guarantee that the guides speak your language. The Safari might last longer than 6 hours if necessary to find the lights. So be prepared for longer nights.

Set sail on a hybrid electric catamaran cruise for the Arctic waters and observe marine animals in their natural habitat. Watch orcas, Fin whales, Sperm whales and/or Humpback whales feed in the icy fjords and admire the stunning landscapes around you. Depart from Tromsø in the morning, and head out to Skjervøy where the whales are in time to enjoy the short hours of daylight. Take in the breathtaking views of frozen landscapes in comfortable, panoramic lounges. Our boats are designed for sightseeing and with capacity for over 100 guests. Yet the large panoramic windows and the multi-level decks allows you to enjoy the views from anywhere on board. Find a selection of food and drinks for purchase on board. Sail for about 3 to 3.5 hours to reach the whales and spend about 1 to 1.5 hours around their feeding grounds. Our captain will keep an eye out for the whales. Sometimes it takes a little longer to spot a Humpback, Fin, Sperm whale and/or Orca but our guides have some nifty tricks to spot them. While we search for the whales, our passionate guides will share their personal stories from the Tromsø area and interesting sights that we can see from the fjords. Of course, a whale watching tour would not be complete without an abundance of information about the Humpbacks, Fin, Sperm whales and/or Orca's. Once the whales have been spotted, we will switch to our electric and silent engine to minimize disturbance to the whales. The vibrations and noise from the engines have been cited by researchers as a large disturbance to marine life and whales. We strive to work towards better and more responsible whale watching tourism and therefor we follow a strict whale watching philosophy. Note: Please bring warm cloths, including your wool and equivalent. We sail in the arctic waters, and its cold, especially out at sea. Our saloons are heated and comfortable, but its cold outside.

Make your way to the camp and feed the majestic reindeer herd of 300 animals. Gather inside the lavuu (Sami tent) for some warmth and a delicious traditional hot meal. You can enjoy the breathtaking sight of whales from the comfort of our cozy saloon or outside on the open deck for an even closer encounter. This is a unique opportunity to witness the beauty and power of these incredible creatures in their natural habitat. Normally you will get to see orcas and humpback whales. Fin whales, minke whales and sperm whales also frequent the waters around Tromsø. Our professional guides will guide you through the journey in the arctic landscape and share insights about the whales, in English. The tour lasts 6-8 hours, depending on the whales’ location on any day. Normally it lasts for 6 hours, but if the whales are further away, we will spend more time to ensure we get to see whales. 8 hours max. The boat, MS Gabriele, is a warm and comfortable catamaran with seats for every passenger. You can watch the whales from inside the boat through large windows or from outside on a large open deck. The onboard bar offers warm and cold drinks, snacks and light meals. The whales move around, following the herring they feed on. Their location may vary from day to day. Our crew is experienced in locating them and we have a network of sailors reporting the whales’ location from day to day. We will do everything we can to see whales and we do find them almost every day. But there is no 100% guarantee that we will see whales. Second chance guarantee. In cases where we don’t get to see whales, we offer a free ticket for one of our next tour dates with available tickets, within the same season. Weather and cancellation The weather in the arctic is sometimes unpredictable. In cases of really bad weather and waves the tour might be cancelled. In such rare cases you will be offered a full refund or a change of ticket to an alternative day with available tickets. Weather and change of tour If the weather, winds and waves are too much for whale watching, our crew will choose an alternative route, in more sheltered waters, with less probability for whale watching. This will be a scenic Fjord Cruise with sightseeing and wildlife watching (possibly eagles, seabirds, seals, dolphins and whales). In such case you will get a refund to match the price of our Fjord Tour.

The experience starts in the dock in the city center in Tromsø, from there you will take on the arctic night on board MS Sagasund. The boat departs at 20:00 and will set course to the destination where the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are the greatest. On board are a variety of warm and cold drinks for you to enjoy and keep you warm,available for purchase. Photos are not included in this activity, but the crew on board will help you to set up the correct settings on your camera and phone, so you can capture the green lady. The boat will stay with the Northern Light as long as it can take into consideration the duration of the tour. The boat will return at the same dock you departed from at 23:30. We cannot guarantee the viewing of the Northern Lights, but if you do not see the Northern Light on your first night, you will be offered a 50 % discount on a new tour on the days we have available places(A new tour is only valid once). Since we do not guarantee to view the Northern Lights, a partial or full refund will not be available if you do not see the Northern Lights. On days when the weather is bad and the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are small, we will contact you and ask you to move your booking to another day, so please be available for contact within 24 hours before departure.

Before setting off, your guide will provide a detailed explanation of the night’s weather conditions, the planned route, and the chances of spotting the Northern Lights. As you journey toward the best possible viewing location, your guide will share fascinating insights about the Northern Lights, the local area, history, climate, and wildlife. Our guides carefully monitor weather forecasts, ensuring we take you to the most promising location—even if that means crossing the border into Finland. Once the perfect spot is found, relax with a cup of hot chocolate and take in the Arctic wilderness. We always aim to make a bonfire for extra warmth and atmosphere, but due to weather conditions and long driving distances, this may not always be possible. We bring firewood with us and will make a bonfire whenever conditions allow—but it is not guaranteed. While at the chosen location, enjoy some light snacks and the stunning scenery. Your guide will be available throughout the tour to assist you and answer any questions. If you get cold, thermal suits are available on the minibus to keep you warm. When the Northern Lights appear, your guide—an experienced photographer—will capture high-quality professional photos of you, as many as you’d like, ensuring you take home incredible memories of the night. If weather conditions are challenging, we may need to move between multiple locations in search of clear skies. Your guide will continuously monitor the forecast to maximize your chances of witnessing the Aurora. Once the tour comes to an end , we will return to Tromsø, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation or hotel.
