The guides were wonderful! Very friendly and knowledgeable with great facts about the areas visited, They definitely showed that they love their job. We prefer to self drive and rarely take tours with more than 8 people but this larger Mercedes minivan was state of the art, very clean with cozy leather seats. As we didn’t know what the road conditions were going to be, we chose a tour. We stopped at a number of beautiful places to take photos. We even saw two reindeer which I had hoped to do as we did not want to go on a large reindeer tour. Guide Tom also took photos of us and quickly shared them via email at no cost to us. Very appreciated! Tromso is a much more touristy place than expected with many large bus tours. Several buses stopped at our stopping places. So it was more crowded than hoped for. There were many small area more private spots for self drive. For people who enjoy taking a tour, this was a great choice.

We crossed the bridge from Tromso and drove west along the north of Kvaløya (Whale Island) via Nordfjordbotenfor to Sommarøy where we had a fish soup lunch. We returned along the Kvaløya south coast taking in fantastic scenery. Stops included views along the fjord, the traditional Norwegian houses between Straumsbukta and Hella, and watching husky sledding over the frozen lakes. We were lucky along route to see reindeer, sea eagles, black-backed gulls, black guillemot, eider duck and red-breasted merganser. However, what made our trip so special was the enthusiasm of Kirsten, our guide. She shared her passion for nature and the landscape with all 15 passengers so that we were well informed and better able to appreciate the beauty of Norway. We would like to thank Kirsten for being such an excellent guide and finally our driver for managing the minibus so safely.
