Brilliant, I took the midnight start option, where I got picked up on time, driven to start where my guide Jon, great guy, took me up the the crater rim. I wanted a challenge so I asked if we could do it fast, we reached the crater in 4 hours, he kept asking if the pace was okay, and if I needed rest. So i believe if you have a good base level of fitness the hike is achievable as the guides will go at whatever pace you desire. Don’t get me wrong, this was hard and you will have definitely earned your post hike calories! 100% recommend and it’s been the highlight of my trip. Do Hard Things.

The one day trek to Senaru Crater Rim is a specially designed program for those with limited time in Lombok who still want to experience the stunning view of Rinjani. The trek begins at 7 a.m. in Senaru village, heading to Senaru crater rim and ending in Senaru village the same day.

We opted for a one-day trip due to our limited time in Lombok. Despite our good physical condition, it was quite challenging. Our guide was a nice guy, we had good chat with him. Personally, I'm glad we chose a one-day trip without porters. While I understand it's a way for them to earn a living, seeing them working in such conditions made me feel bad.
