Stavanger: Kjerag Summer Hike with Packed Lunch

Stavanger: Kjerag Summer Hike with Packed Lunch

Join a summer hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, and enjoy the spectacular Lysefjord. Relax and savour the views along the way. Hike in small groups on trails that have been upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas, and enjoy the exhilaration of standing atop the boulder before the crowds of tourists arrive. Your local nature guides have first-hand knowledge about the Ryfylke region, and a passion for sharing stories about its natural and cultural history with heir guests. Be shown the best viewpoints and how to capture memorable photos by your guides. We begin our journey in the early morning hours with a pickup from your preferred meeting place in Stavanger. While being transported to the trailhead, we drive through pastoral landscapes and little villages. After driving for about 3 hours, we arrive at the Eagle’s Nest trailhead, where there are restrooms. We also pick up our packed lunches (please provide your dietary restrictions well in advance of the tour day). The bakery Hekta makes everything fresh and hand-made, so you get a proper and filling meal! The guide will give a briefing for the day ahead, and then the hike begins! During the 2.5-hour hike to the boulder, you’ll encounter 3 periods of steep climbing interspersed with 2 shallow valleys. The hike takes you through landscapes that are a bit technical in some places. Therefore, you might not want this to be your first experience on a mountain. This hike is considered challenging. Enjoy views of the village of Lysebotn, which is situated at the head of the Lysefjord. The final 2 kilometers leading up to the Kjerag boulder are relatively flat and will allow you to focus more on the spectacular nature around you. Once you reach the edge of the mountain’s plateau, while standing on a 1000-meter-high cliff, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 42-kilometer-long Lysefjord. Cliff-side, you’ll have plenty of time to rest and enjoy your packed lunch. If you’re among the brave, you’ll have the opportunity to stand atop the Kjerag boulder. Base-jumping is legal in Norway, so if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch as daredevils hurdle themselves off the side of the cliff. After the lunch break, your guide will lead you back down to the Eagle’s Nest, which takes approximately 3-hours. This experience will prove to be a rewarding one with a physically demanding 6-hour hike time, a 12 kilometer hike, and a total ascent of 800-meters.

Stavanger: Guided Lysefjord Cruise to Pulpit Rock

Stavanger: Guided Lysefjord Cruise to Pulpit Rock

The captain will meet you at the boathouse (Strandkaien 34) and provide you with the neccessary gear and give a small safety brief. We start off slowly by gliding out of Stavanger harbour while passing mighty cruiseships or other vessels. On the way out you will have a beautiful view of the city centre and to some of the iconic buildings like "Tollboden" and the Norwegian oil museum. After we pass the bridge you will see a gigantic street art painting before we then accelerate to a thrilling 25-35 knots and head to Lysefjorden. We are able to cruise as fast as the RIB-boats offered by other operators, but we usually go a little bit slower due to safety, less enviromental impact and improved comfort. Our boats are more sturdy and have a roof ("sun-top") for better protection from the elements without sacrificing the view. Our boats also have a lounge/seating area both in the front and in the back, with the possibility to walk around the whole boat, giving you excellent photo opportunities during the safari. On the way to Lysefjorden we will pass beautiful scenary, wild norwegian nature, idyllic islands, fish-farms, small villages and cosy cabins and houses. If we are lucky you might even spot a seal or two and other wildlife. The Lysefjord-bridge marks the entrance to Lysefjord and from here on you will learn all about the fjord's legends and tales. The scenary will change into massive rock formations and huge cliffs, which is an amazing experience just in itself. We will visit Vagabond's cave where some rather shady people hid from the sheriff in the old days. Off course we will also behold the world-renowned Pulpit rock (Preikestolen), as is stands 604 meters above the fjord. Learn how it was made and also why the fjord is shaped as it is. Last, but not least, you will also hear the fascinating story of how and why "Whiskey-falls" got it's nickname (it has something to to with a crazy German). Beware...the captain might put the bow of the boat directly into the waterfall! After visiting the cool waterfall we will head back again and the tour will end up in the same place as we started. We are pretty sure you will have long lasting memories and cool pictures with you after this unforgettable, front row seat tour to some of the best Norway has to offer!
