Full description

Following pick-up from your hotel in San Cristóbal de las Casas, head towards the ancient Maya city of Palenque and stop at the amazing waterfalls of Agua Azul along the way. Gaze in awe at the cascades, formed by the currents of the Otulún, Shumuljá and Tulijá rivers and shallow canyons banked by vertical cliffs.

Get the chance to cool down with a swim, time permitting, and marvel at the different areas and landscapes of the natural wonder. Continue to the waterfalls of Misol-Ha, where the water can rise to heights of up to 30 meters in the natural rainforest surroundings.

Then, discover the ruins of the Maya civilization at the archaeological site of Palenque. Admire the impressive buildings and structures of the former city state, including the Temple of the Foliated Cross and Temple of the Sun in the stunning Temple of the Cross group of step pyramids. Return to San Cristóbal at the end of the day for drop off at a central location.

The 5 hour ride from San Cristobal is rough. The roads can be a little rough at times. So if you're trying to sleep in the van, forget about it. It was worth it though! Great trip, great sights, great tour guides.

Palenque js a beautiful old Mayan City, but as a lover of nature the beauty of both waterfalls is the best for me.

The day was VERY long - but we expected that. You spend a good 12 hours of the day stuck in the bus as it's such a long journey out and back. We were also incredibly tired as we'd had very little sleep (with the pick up being 3.30am) and that also didn't help. The tour was in Spanish which we knew but made it a bit difficult for us as no one could speak much if not any English, though luckily 1 of the guys on the trip did speak some English so helped us out a little (with times to be back on the bus etc.) but it wasn't too bad as we paid for our own guide in the ruins (though it was a little rushed as he obviously took a massive pay cut to take just 2 of us round!). I would say it was worth going but I probably wouldn't do such a trip again as the travelling was just too much. If you can, I would suggest staying over a night or 2 in Palenque and doing the trip over 2 or 3 days.
