The Many Faces of Geneva: Self-Guided Audio City Tour

The Many Faces of Geneva: Self-Guided Audio City Tour

Pride and love, gluttony and moderation, justice and anger, envy and courage go hand in hand in Geneva. In this tour you will not only manage to see all the main sights of this city, but also look at them from a different angle — from the perspective of human vices and virtues. The monument in honour of Empress Elisabeth ”Sissi”, who was stabbed to death, is located not far from the “doing a good deed” Jet d'Eau fountain. The monument to Jean-Jacques Rousseau reminds visitors of a man who promoted ideas of social equality, but at the same time confessed to affairs with married women. The building known to serve as a shelter to orphans and bread for the poor in the Middle Ages was also used to lock up beggars and the insane, but the theologians depicted on the Reformation Wall were taunted with inflexibility and heartlessness. We will guide you through all the main tourist places of Geneva and in addition tell stories of the real people and their sins and virtues. Go to the monument in honour of Empress Elisabeth “Sissi” and plug in your headphones. Take out your smartphone and listen to the audio guide. Learn how and why Empress Elisabeth “Sissi” was killed by the anarchist. See one of the largest fountains in the world — the Jet d'Eau fountain — and understand how it makes this world better. Continue to the Brunswick monument and find out, where on it you can see the images of virtues. Walk to the monument to Jean-Jacques Rousseau and learn about the sins he confessed. Visit the National Monument and understand why exactly this monument won the competition. See the Flower Clock and learn how it is related to pride. Continue to the Palace of Justice and understand why it is associated with justice and mercy. See the Lutheran church and learn how different religions see the influence of sins and good deeds on the salvation of a person. Discover the monument which is considered to be a Genevan fighter for justice. Learn where in the past in Geneva was a red light districts and listen to the history of prostitution in this city. Walk to the Statue of the Prophet Jeremiah and learn why he is often called "the weeping prophet”. Go to St. Pierre Cathedral and understand why it is associated with the virtue of temperance. Continue to the Town Hall building and see the long stone bench where the judges of Geneva pronounced death sentences and hear about some of them in more detail. Go to the Reformation Wall and learn who of the theologians depicted there were taunted with inflexibility, mercilessness and heartlessness. INCREDIBLE! We only had 24 hours to spend in Geneva and we got to see the most gorgeous view in the city and all the main attractions. We were picked up from and stopped off where we wanted within the area of the city centre. One of the nicest people we have met and so helpful! Gave us the cutest Polaroid photo of us and recommended where to go for lunch and the best chocolate in Swiss / the world and we listened and it was amazing! Could not recommend this more, it is a must!

He will stop multiple times to take your picture at highlights and gives you a lot of control over stopping at any other place you’d like. A great way to see Geneva and enjoy some amazing fondue and wine. Can’t recommend it enough.
