I love Cheeky Kiwi and our lovely tour guide (Mairi). It was snowing hard the past few days and the snow was very thick when we visited Mt Cook so I wasn’t able to do any of the hiking. Still I was amaze with the views and how much snow there was!! The Tasman Glacier was also closed so I wasn’t able to see it. I love that Cheeky Kiwi has wifi on the bus and they offer snacks. I feel well taken care of during the tour. Mairi was super accommodating and also patient. It was raining when we went on tour and Mairi would come out of the car just to make sure the stair was working. I am so grateful! I also enjoyed our stop over at an orchard! Big thank you from me and the amazing team of Cheeky Kiwi.

Full description

Visit breathtaking locations in Queenstown as you make your way to Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. Travel with a reliable tour guide who will share stories and rich background knowledge on Queenstown and the Mount Cook area.

Start your tour in the stunning city of Queenstown. Drive through the Kawarau Suspension Bridge and marvel at the scenery the Kawarau Gorge has to offer. Stop at the Roaring Meg Lookout to take photos of your stunning view. Then, enter the region of Cromwell, famous for fruits and wine and where you can see huge fields of vines.

Next, traverse the majestic Lindis Pass which lies between two valleys against a backdrop of a bright blue sky. This stretch of highway is one of the only three Alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps. After taking photos at the top of the pass, drive through the Mackenzie District and visit the township of Omarama.

Turning west, you'll enter Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, and Lake Pukaki will emerge in front of you. Proceed to the start of Tasman Glacier Viewpoint walk, taking in views off the longest glacier in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Finish your tour by visiting High Country Salmon as you make your way back to Queenstown.

***PLEASE NOTE: The Hooker Valley Track is currently closed beyond Müller Lookout (located between the first and second swing bridges) while the Department of Conservation replaces one of the bridges. This scenic section still offers stunning views and a rewarding hiking experience. The full track is expected to reopen in Autumn 2026.***

If you plan to embark any hikes during your Mount Cook tour, it's advisable to bring along a light lunch or grab some food when you stop in Omarama
New Zealand weather is unpredictable at any time of the year, so dress and prepare for all seasons
Wear walking shoes or boots with good grip soles that can cope with mud
While lunch is not provided, it can be purchased at the stop in Omarama
Please note: the Hooker Valley Track is currently CLOSED while the Department of Conservation works on replacing one of the swing bridges. This is expected to be complete in Autumn 2026 so the track will be inaccessible to the public until then
