Johannesburg: Pretoria and Cullinan Diamond Mine Tour

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide, Sabu, was a font of knowledge not only on aspects of the tour itself but South African history in general. The Cullinan Diamond Mine is a must see and the tour around the important sites of Pretoria is excellent. The transport was roomy and comfortable. We ate a very nice lunch at a local restaurant recommended by Sabu. It was very reasonably priced.

Only two of us on tour around Pretoria. Visited Kruger museum, main square, Vortrekker monument and Government house. The last two are stunning buildings located in green spaces with lovely gardens. Then short drive to Cullinan Diamond Mine. Where we joined about 30 other people and shown a film about the history of the mine. Then we joined a small group and shown round part of the mine by a company guide who was very informative. Security getting onto the site is strictly and passing the breathalyser test was a novelty. At the end of the tour you are shown into a locked gift shop which sells diamonds. The only drawback to this is that you are locked in until everyone is ready to leave. This is because you are still on site and all need to be escorted together. The whole tour was excellent with guides answering all our questions.
