As we drive towards the São Jorge area, we might pause at a quaint local spot for a brief refreshment break, though this stop is not guaranteed. Levada do Rei starts at the Water Treatment Station in Quebradas, São Jorge, guiding you along the stunning São Jorge valley. This trail offers a unique chance to discover a variety of herbs and medicinal plants, accompanied by informative insights. The journey begins in an exotic forest featuring introduced flora, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the agricultural landscapes in São Jorge and Santana. This hike is around 10km, with an elevation gain of around 50 meters, moderate difficulty and typically takes around 4 hours to complete. As the trail continues, you'll venture into one of the most pristine sections of the Laurissilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Here, a diverse array of native plants and bird species, including the "Firecrest" and the friendly Chaffinch, await your discovery. The path also takes you through a waterfall before reaching Ribeiro Bonito, a secluded and serene endpoint where you can immerse yourself in the peaceful sounds of nature. After a short rest, the return journey retraces the same path, allowing you to once again take in the enchanting beauty of the forest. This levada walk is a truly memorable experience, offering a window into Madeira's most unspoiled natural wonders.

On this this guided, self-driving, off-road tour you will have the opportunity to see nature in its purest state where you can enjoy unparalleled moments of leisure. Lasting approximately 180 minutes, you will have the chance to experience off-road driving and exploring the Porto Santo magnificent mountains, through rocky paths and beautiful landscapes. The minibus picks you up at an agreed location and time. You will then be taken on a guided tour to the first stop at Pico Arieiro(1818 metres), where you can marvel at the breathtaking Alpine type terrain, while you explore the area on foot. The guide will then transport you slowly to the World heritage site at Ribeiro Frio, where you will be afforded the opportunity to do a short levada walk, through the green Laurel forest. Next you will be taken to Santana, where you can admire the traditional triangular thatched roof houses and where you will be given more time , to enjoy , a lunch break. From Santana you will be transported to Porto da Cruz , where you stop at the old Sugar mill , which still produces rum and molasses. At this Sugar mill ,it will be mostly possible to taste some of the aged rum produced there. The next viewpoint we visit , will be in the region of Machico , which was the first main town on the island, the Portuguese sailors having set foot there , for the first time ,in 1419. You will then be driven passed Caniçal, the island's export harbour, to the Ponta do Rosto viewpoint , where you can see both the North and the South coasts, the airport , the Caniçal export harbour and on a clear day , the neighbouring golden beach island of Porto Santo, all from this same strategic viewpont. Ponta do Rosto , being our last stop , we then head back towards Funchal. At the Guide's discretion and due to safety ,weather and or congestion due to excessive traffic , your Guide could conduct this tour in reverse order.
