Discover one of two places in Europe where you can see bearded seals up close. Walk into Polaria to discover the unique life in the Arctic Ocean. Gaze at a variety of fish and crustaceans from the region, as well as two bearded seals and three harbor seals, and witness live feeding and training sessions. Our brand-new interactive Exhibitions showcase up-to-date research done in the Arctic by Scientists at the FRAM - High North Research Centre for Climate and the Environment. Learn about how all life is connected, and how your actions can have a positive impact on the environment. Experience our 3 different films at the Panoramic Theater: "Svalbard - Arctic Wilderness" (Duration: 14 minutes), "Northern Lights - A Wonderous Experience" (Duration: 9 minutes), and "Behind the Scenes" (Duration: 11 minutes). The ticket is valid all day on the booking date, and you choose when to arrive within our opening hours. We do our best to dry your suit after your Arctic adventure, but let’s be real—our activities are pretty exciting, and sometimes a little water sneaks in! While we have dryers to help out, bringing a set of dry clothes is the easiest way to avoid waddling back to town like a slightly damp but happy penguin.

The road between Kiruna and Tromso takes around 5 hours at summer time and 6 hours at winter season. There are few stop at the gas station in the during the journey. Our minibuses are: Mercedes Vito, VW Caravelle, Opel Vivaro, Renault Traffic. The vans can easily fit up to 8 passengers and have a large luggage compartment.

This tour takes you on a captivating adventure to some of Tromsø’s iconic sites and hidden gems, each housing intriguing stories of the Polar Bear – the King of the Arctic – from our fascinating past when the Polar Bear was nearly hunted to extinction to the present day when it stands as a symbol of climate change and the urgency to act upon these changes. Enjoy admission to the Arctic experience centre Polaria and the Polar Museum, including repeat visits on the same day. At the Polar Museum, the very heart of Tromsø’s Arctic legacy, we will uncover the intriguing tales of explorers, hunters and trappers, who brought back live polar bear cubs, sparking the rumour that these magnificent creatures roamed Tromsø’s streets. You will walk in the footsteps of Tromsø’s famous Arctic heroes and meet stuffed Polar Bears that serve as educational artifacts and reminders of the city’s peculiar encounters and the impact they had on local folklore. The tour ends at Polaria, where you will gain an insight into the challenges Arctic animals face due to the melting ice cap and shifting ecosystems through the new interactive exhibition about “The Changing Arctic”. This is the only place in mainland Europe you can enjoy a close-up encounter with the bearded seal, which also forms an important part of the Polar Bear’s diet. Along the way, you will see Tromsø's main landmarks, walk along the city's lively quayside and discover the traditional colourful houses in the old town. Researchers from around the world are collaborating in Tromsø to understand what is happening. At Polaria, we explain what they are finding out. We invite you to an environmental-focused guided tour of Polaria. Journey through the vulnerable Arctic with our brand-new knowledge-based exhibitions, to get a better understanding of the complex Arctic ecosystem and how all life is connected. Our Arctic aquarium contains rare species that can only be seen in and around Tromsø. This tour is therefore a unique opportunity to study life below sea level in the Arctic as close as possible. The tour will delve into topics such as human impact on the environment, and the synergies of Arctic wildlife. This unique experience will be a great learning opportunity, and give the guests a sense of community to reflect on how our presence and decisions affect our planet. After the guiding you have the opportunity to explore all that Polaria has to offer. We recommend sitting down and enjoying our three spectacular panoramic films in our theatre and then catching the seal feeding and training at 15:30 pm.
