The tour was nice - traffic in city and near parts keep on getting worse as Dia de los Muertos arrives so it took us about 3.5hours to get there. Once there, Mixqic is magical. It can get pretty crowded but it was to hope for. Key elements are still there. I just want to make one thing clear, i went on nov 1 hoping to see families in the cementary, lit candles, and all these; the activity has become a bit of more of a Halloween thing and there’s tourists dressed as a lot of other characters that are not in any way allusive to Dia de Muertos. Families hace apparently chosen to keep the celebrations more to themselves and cementary was still very dark at 9:45pm.. So consider going on the 2nd for the full experience. Anyway, wouldn’t change any other detail and guide was very explicative to us on the way and there. 5 stars

It was a great trip, both the market and thr cemetery in Mixquic were amazing. Our guide Alma was really nice and even gave us an additional hour at the spot. It's a really perfect choice for the Day of the Dead. Highly recommend it!

Full description

Join our small-group (max 12 people) or private (your group only) tour to witness one of Mexico’s most iconic cultural traditions—Day of the Dead in San Andrés Mixquic. Based on feedback from past seasons, we've refined this experience to ensure a smoother, more meaningful visit. By starting earlier in the day, we avoid the heavy traffic and crowds that often build up later, giving you the chance to explore the town and cemeteries while it’s still peaceful.

We begin our journey from Mexico City and head straight to Mixquic, one of the original villages of the Tláhuac area. Upon arrival, we’ll explore the town’s decorated streets and learn about the pre-Hispanic roots of the Day of the Dead. A local guide will share insights into the symbolism of the colorful skulls, marigolds, candles, and the altars (ofrendas) set up to honor deceased loved ones.

You’ll visit the local cemetery where families gather to clean and decorate graves, light candles, and spend time in remembrance. Our small group size allows for a more respectful and immersive experience, and by returning earlier, we ensure a comfortable and well-paced day without delays.

This is not just a tour—it’s a reflection on life, memory, and Mexican heritage, brought to life in one of the most authentic and moving places to witness this celebration.
