Malta: The Three Fortified Cities Tour including Boat Trip

Malta: The Three Fortified Cities Tour including Boat Trip

The Three Cities is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Cospicua, Birgu (Vittoriosa), and Senglea. The oldest of the Three Cities is Vittoriosa, which has existed since prior to the Middle Ages. The other two cities, Senglea and Cospicua, were both founded by the Order of the Knights of Saint John in the 16th and 17th centuries respectively. During this half day tour, you will have the opportunity to appreciate these unique historical fortified cities and admire magnificent churches, traditional piazzas, incredible fortifications, and architectural treasures found all around the Three Cities area. Pieces of living history kept alive by hundreds of years of preservation! We start with a panoramic drive past the city of Cospicua, a double fortified harbour city and the largest of the three cities, to reach the city of Vittoriosa, this glorious city has been inhabited since the time of the Phoenicians, but the current city dates back from the time of the Order of the Knights of Saint John. Vittoriosa was chosen as the capital city of Malta instead of Mdina upon the arrival of the Order in the year 1530. Enjoy a fascinating walking tour through the narrow streets of the city admiring and appreciating all the historical buildings and captivating treasures found at every twist and turn. Upon arrival at the stunning Vittoriosa waterfront, board a traditional Maltese “Frejgatina” (a small, carvel-built fishing boat) for a delightful tour of the colourful harbour creeks. The tour ends at Senglea, named after Claude De La Sengle, the Grand Master who founded the city, Senglea is also known as “Civitas Invicta” a name given to the city for managing to resist the Ottoman invasion during the Great Siege of 1565. The island on which Senglea lies was joined by a land bridge to Cospicua during the time of the Knights of St. John and as a result, it became peninsular in shape. From the Gardjola Gardens located at the tip of the peninsula enjoy a stunning 360° view of the Grand Harbour, including the impressive Fort Sant Angelo, from where the Grand Master Jean Perisot De La Valette led the defence of the island during the Great Siege of 1565. During the whole tour knowledgeable and experienced guides will be providing you with riveting information and enhance your experience through narration and engaging storytelling.

From Malta: Syracuse and Marzamemi Day Trip with Guide

From Malta: Syracuse and Marzamemi Day Trip with Guide

It is one of the loveliest cities in Sicily. We tend to forget that it was once the most important city in Western Europe. The city owes its origin to the Greek settlers who, from 733 BC onwards, turned Sicily into Magna Graecia, when Greece ruled not only the Mediterranean but also the known world. Ancient Syracuse is an island, now joined to the mainland by a short bridge. It is the heart and soul of Syracuse, where the Greeks, for reasons of defense, decided to found their new city. Ortygia was in recent years given a facelift and is attracting more and more visitors. Piazza Duomo - at the center of Ortygia is the Piazza Duomo, with the Duomo taking pride of place. The Duomo is unique, no other word for it. It was built by the Greeks as the Temple of Athena. When the Byzantines conquered Syracuse, instead of demolishing the temple, as so often happened, they converted it into a Christian church. The Normans modified the interior and built a more Christian façade. When the façade was destroyed in the 1693 earthquake the Sicilian baroque façade which we see today was erected. The Duomo, one of the oldest sites of continued worship in the world is unique and an example of Greek, Byzantine, Norman, and Baroque architecture all in one. Just 45 minutes away from Pozzallo is the quaintest fishing village you can come across – Marzamemi. The rows of colorful one-story fishermen’s houses are interrupted by the Tonnara, the disused tuna processing plant. The Tonnara was built by the Arabs in the X Century. Palazzo Principe Villadorata and the Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola tower over the fisherman’s houses. The central Piazza Regina Margherita is everyone’s meeting place. The village is a sea of color, the bright blue doors, and windows, the potted red geraniums, the multicolored wooden fishing boats, all against a background of the blue Mediterranean Sea. If you like Sicilian delicacies visit Campisi, the traditional delicacy, bottarga, the dried tuna roe has changed very little since Arab-Phoenician times.

Maltese Tile - Souvenir painting workshop with local

Maltese Tile - Souvenir painting workshop with local

- Kindly contact me in case the date you have in mind is not available- - The Maltese Tile, an extraordinary heritage from Maltese art and culture. - The relaxing activity is based in my studio, which is situated in an Urban Conservation area, and within a traditional Maltese Townhouse which I am turning into a living arts space. You will be given brief historical information about the Maltese Tiles, then you will create a base for a coaster sized tile using white cement (size 10 x 10cm) which can be used as a souvenir. Your tiles do not need to be baked, therefore you can paint them and take them with you home straightaway in one of my handmade boxes :) I will show you how the tile is done from concept to realization, you will be designing your own pattern (or use the ones we have available), transfer the design to the mold, and finally painting it! At the end you will be keeping the tile for yourself, and have something handmade (and Maltese) which you can take back home! Other things to note 1. To make one tile usually takes about 2 hours, but you are more than welcome to make more tiles at an extra expense of 4 euro each tile, or else buy a tile kit to take home starting from 5 euro 2. The activity is ideal for both beginners and advanced and team-building 3. If you require any postcards, or handmade items, feel free to browse around.
