We were picked up by Daffa from Java and his co-driver around 5:00 AM. The road to Tumpak Sewu is a winding road, difficult to drive and Daffa did that well. Daffa makes sure he knows every person by name and makes nice contact with every member of the group. At Tumpak Sewu there was an explanation of what to bring and what not and people were excorted to the shops where they could hire proper shoes. The guide Irwan is a good and well- trained local guide. He sees to it that everyone is ok. I couldn't make it all the way down and he notified Daffa that I would be coming back up again. At the end of the route, Irwan arranged a scooter to bring my husband back to the meeting point and took over his backpack. As for the route itself: there are steps and handlebars that are not safe anymore and at some points there is no safety rope anymore. There are several dangerous slippery pieces in the route. We were careful and enjoyed the day anyway. Tamara Melati
