Biblical Corinth in 7 hours private tour

Biblical Corinth in 7 hours private tour

After an hour’s drive, you will reach the famous Corinth Canal, one of the most significant strategic locations in Greece and the Mediterranean, because it connects the mainland of Greece with the Peloponnese Peninsula. This place offers you the chance to take some pictures of the truly breathtaking views, before continuing to Ancient Corinth. Our Christian tour to Corinth will take you to the heart of the city where St Paul lived and preached for almost 2 years, teaching people the word of the new religion at the time. In ancient Corinth, you will visit the Archaeological Museum with important findings and impressive sculptures that are definitely worth your time and the ancient agora where Paul spent his hall day pritching the word of God! After the visit to ancient Corinth, you will also have the chance to see the Cathedral of St Paul along with the pretty, new marina and the harbor of the city with numerous boats of all sizes. After the visit to ancient Corinth, you will visit the Fortress of Acrocorinth (the Acropolis of Corinth), which fortified the city in a solid and exemplary manner, allowing it to be a very strong and safe city. Once we finish the tour to the Acropolis of Corinth, we will head on to Kechreae the ancient port of Corinth where Paul disembarked. A natural bay, it was once the Saronic Gulf port of Korinthia. Our next stop will be at Isthmia! We’ll head now east of the Corinth Canal to find Isthmia, known since ancient times as a place of worship. A submersible bridge is a type of movable bridge that lowers the bridge deck below the water level to permit waterborne traffic to use the waterway. This differs from a lift bridge or table bridge, which operates by raising the roadway. The submersible bridge’s primary advantage over the similar lift bridge is that there is no structure above the shipping channel and thus no height limitation on ship traffic. This is particularly important for sailing vessels. Additionally, the lack of an above-deck structure is considered aesthetically pleasing, a similarity shared with the Chicago-style bascule bridge and the table bridge. However, the presence of the submerged bridge structure limits the draft of vessels in the waterway. The submersible bridges of the Isthmus of Corinth are two. One is located in Posidonia (this refers to the one linking Corinth to Loutraki) and the other to Isthmia. The bridge of Poseidonia is the one with the most traffic as the inhabitants of the two cities use it to save many kilometers from what they would do if they needed to make it around. Poseidonia’s Bridge is also the one with the largest tourist traffic since thousands of tourists visit it and wait for it to sink in order to make the crossing of a ship and then emerge. The depth that each bridge sinks is about 11 meters. It is time now to take the way back. Your driver will then bring you back to Athens.

Chris was our driver/guide and was very knowledgeable about the history of the region. He had deep conversations with my son about the Greek history for hours… we covered a lot of ground in this tour. He adjusted the tour to our liking, and even took us to a good place for souvenirs. The lunch was at the top of a hill- very beautiful location and delicious food. We bought freshly pressed olive oil from there. Highly recommend!

Andrea’s was an excellent guide, told us the riveting story of St. Paul’s footsteps, starting with the history of Athens…we experienced a beautiful epiphany orthodox tradition by chance, and he very much catered the tour to our requests, being that we are Christians ourselves. the restaurant we ate at was delicious. Thank you for everything, Andreas!
