Our guide Joâo was friendly, informative, knowledgeable and funny. He took us around the castle sharing stories from the perspective of the kings, the invaders and how design features of the castle made it difficult to survive. The breadth of Portuguese history, and its relationship with Spain and the voyages of discovery and conquer were eloquently navigated. It's a stunning castle, a great half day out. If you can walk up to it you should, the cute side streets are a delight.

Karla was great - friendly and very knowledgeable about the castle. She spent about an hour with us before letting us tour it on our own. I would highly recommend her we enjoyed all the history about it she shared with us. Much better than trying to do it on your own!
