Vienna: Leopold Museum Skip-the-Line Entry Ticket

Vienna: Leopold Museum Skip-the-Line Entry Ticket

Visit the magnificent Leopold Museum, a unique treasure trove of Viennese Art Nouveau, the Wiener Werkstätte, and Expressionism. Visit the Leopold Museum in MuseumsQuartier Vienna and experience the most important and largest Egon Schiele collection in the world as well as masterpieces by Secession founder Gustav Klimt. Admire the impressive artworks and embark on a journey to Fin De Siècle Vienna, when artists such as Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and Oskar Kokoschka turned the world upside down and broke away from old traditions. The new creative movement began with the Vienna Secession and presented itself in Art Nouveau. They gave the old Habsburg Empire a final flourish and made Vienna one of the hottest cultural centers of the time. The Leopold Museum also houses a variety of objects created by artists of the Wiener Werkstätte - from Josef Hoffmann to Kolo Moser - which are considered unique milestones in international design history. The modern architecture of the Leopold Museum, a light-flooded cube of white shell limestone whose color is reminiscent of the bright buildings on the Ringstrasse where you can still admire Art Nouveau, stands in strong contrast to the historic ambiance of the imperial stables. The light-flooded atrium not only offers views of and into the building itself, but also impressive and unexpected views of the city of Vienna. The museum's panoramic windows offer a wonderful view of Vienna's city center with Maria-Theresien-Platz and the Hofburg.

Gustav Klimt was born and died in the Austrian capital, so it's no wonder you can walk around Vienna for days trying to see everything: his "Kiss" at the Belvedere Palace, his "Beethoven Frieze" at the Secession Exhibition Hall, his "Life and Death" at the Leopold Museum. During this art tour, you will visit the three museums that house the most important part of Klimt's legacy and get a comprehensive overview of his work. Belvedere The tour stats at the historic Belvedere Palace. It is here that "The Kiss" and "Judith", the famous works of Klimt's most striking "golden period", are to be found. Here you will not only see the most famous works firsthand, but also understand the historical context and the origins of the great artist's work. Secession In the exhibition hall of the Secession, you will come face to face with his monumental work "Beethoven's Frieze". It is the only piece that surrounds the viewer on all sides - which was part of the artist's conception. Here you will merge with the art and experience Gustav Klimt in its most pure form. Leopold Museum The third stop is in the Museum Quarter. Here, the Leopold Museum houses "Life and Death". It is an exceptional painting, and in reworking it, the artist committed an important symbolic act. You will take an in-depth look at this key work, as well as the reconstructions of the Klimt's studio. After the tour you can stay in the Leopold Museum as long as you like.

Leopold Museum: GUIDED TOUR through "Egon Schiele - final years (1914-1918)"

Leopold Museum: GUIDED TOUR through "Egon Schiele - final years (1914-1918)"

The major spring exhibition at the Leopold Museum on Schiele's last paintings: in 1917, the painter decided to radically change his style. For the first time, this transformation and the person of his wife are illuminated. In the midst of the First World War, Schiele transformed himself from a revolutionary young star to a busy exhibition organizer. At the same time, a calming of his work can be observed. Why did Schiele decide to take this step in 1917? How did the Expressionist's world view change during the First World War? Together we will immerse ourselves in the life of this exceptional talent. We follow his path from the Academy to his first scandalous successes and on to his early end. The Leopold Museum is not only showing extraordinary loans from the "late" Schiele - and contrasting them with the early works - but is also presenting Edith Schiele's DIARY for the first time. Previously kept under lock and key, the artist's wife becomes tangible. It is not concealed that she was critical of Egon and that the couple had to deal with many a conflict. Drawings and a few oil paintings show the stylistic change from Epxressionist to "classicist". This calming down was already apparent around 1913/14 - and culminated in the late drawings of 1917/18. Schiele's entire oeuvre is shown on the basis of landscapes, figure paintings and portraits. When Edith and Egon Schiele died of the Spanish flu within just four days of each other, the painter was only 28 years old. His importance for Viennese art in the 1910s cannot be overestimated. As he was highly productive in his career, he was already known to an international art public. The special exhibition not only shows us Schiele the painter and draughtsman, but also the shrewd strategist when it came to organizing and participating in exhibitions. In 60 or 90 minutes, we dive deep into the turn of the century in Vienna. If you wish, I can also show you pictures of Klimt, Hoffmann and Schiele's friends on your tablet/mobile phone to contextualize the works in the exhibition.
