Full description
The one-way trip will take just over an hour to reach the city of Kutná Hora.
In the historic center of Kutná Hora, a UNESCO heritage site, we will see the plague column, a sculpture in tribute to the victims of the epidemics, then we will go to the Italian Courtyard, passing through the central square. Following the itinerary you will learn about medieval coins. Before reaching the Italian Courtyard, which was the Royal Castle of Kutná Hora and is now the headquarters of the town hall, we will see an entrance gate to the city and remains of the walls, from there we can appreciate, in the distance, the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Barbara, which we will enter later. After the Italian Court, which is a castle within the same city, we will border the church of Santiago el Mayor. Continuing, we will hear about the legend and curse of the Ruthard family. We will pass by a second castle, which defends the entrance to the silver mines and is the current Silver Museum. A few steps away we will reach a public exhibition of sculpture groups that will remind us of the Charles Bridge in Prague, this in front of the façade of the former Jesuit College of Kutná Hora and current headquarters of the Central Bohemian Art Gallery.
At the end of the exhibition of sculptural groups is the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Bárbara, those interested will visit its interiors and hear about its peculiarities. This guided tour of Kutná Hora will continue through a viewing point, the old synagogue and the Stone Fountain, a unique Gothic civil monument. The tour of the historic center of Kutná Hora will end in front of the Stone House, a Gothic civil house that more closely resembles a church.
Then, we will continue with the excursion, but in another neighborhood, the Sedlec neighborhood. Here we will visit the Ossuary in the center of a cemetery formerly considered “holy land”. The Sedlec ossuary is a monument to the victims of the epidemics who, due to temporary circumstances, did not have the opportunity for extreme unction and which, although it may seem a little bit macabre, gathers classified remains of 40,000 people.
